An Extraordinary Place with Extraordinary People: Project Vote Smart, founded by Presidents Carter, Ford and other national leaders, is a national research center that collects and distributes factual information on over 40,000 political leaders. According to U.S. News and World Report, “Project Vote Smart would make the Founders weep with joy.” Nonprofit and nonpartisan, we are headquartered in a beautiful but remote area of the beautiful Montana Rockies, far from the influence of special interests.
Vote Smart staff, interns and volunteers, are building the nation’s first Voter’s Self-Defense System and we need your help. We are looking for people that understand how important it is that all citizens have easy access to abundant, factual and relevant information about our elected officials or those campaigning to replace them.
Join a small, dedicated team and help us improve our website, API, and internal applications. The primary focus for this position will be on expanding the presentation and accessibility of our political information. There is also opportunity for assisting in improving our data acquistion processes.
Responsibilities:
– Website development (Python/Django, HTML, CSS, jQuery, JavaScript, SQL)
– Linux system administration as needed.
– Some technical support as needed.
Requirements:
– Experience in website development, with MVC framework a plus.
– Programming experience (Python, PHP, Java).
– Creative problem-solving ability.
– Some experience with RDBMs.
– Some experience with Linux as a development/production platform.
-Experience with LDAP, Kerberos, Samba, and NFS a plus.
Preference may be given to those interested in working at our Great Divide Ranch Research Center in Montana. Our headquarters offers an outdoor experience like no other: surrounded by pristine wilderness and high snow caped mountains, we feature world class fishing, boating and hiking all on our own streams, ponds and lakes; tennis courts, volleyball courts, and plenty of wildlife-viewing opportunities! Temporary room and board may be available for new staff.
