The Museum of Latin American Art expands knowledge and appreciation of modern and contemporary Latin American art through its Collection, ground-breaking exhibitions, stimulating educational programs, and engaging cultural events.
This position is responsible for the design and production of a wide range of collateral materials to support exhibitions, fundraising, marketing, and public programs. Also responsible for supervising graphic design personnel within the department. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Operations.
Essential Functions:
• Participate in meetings with project leaders and work with them to identify graphic design needs.
• Use knowledge and skills to answer questions and guide them in making the best choice.
• Establish realistic timelines with project leaders and explain process.
• Maintain a friendly and helpful attitude.
• Design and produce a wide range of collateral including, but not limited to: identity concepts, vinyl panels, labels, brochures, catalogues, invitations, templates, posters, advertisements, annual report, M3 Magazine, quarterly calendar, and Gala.
• Ensure that all materials are in compliance with branding; graphic standards and styles, and that they have been reviewed and approved prior to completion.
• Request three estimates for printing of materials and ask project leader to submit an expenditure request form to accounting.
• Assist with the coordinate the production and delivery of materials with print and other vendors as needed.
• Assist with maintaining archives and historical files for the department.
• Order graphic supplies and initiate service on department equipment as needed.
• Assist with the design and production of weekly e-blasts
• Update information for lobby screens and submit to front desk staff.
• Other duties as assigned or required
Knowledge /Skills/Experience Required:
• BA/BFA degree and 2-3 years of experience as a Graphic Designer in the museum industry or related field.
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize and meet multiple deadlines
• Strong customer service and communications skills
• Mac savvy and prior experience
• Proficient in InDesign, Illustrator, QuarkXpress, Adobe CS4, Leopard, HTML, CSS,
Wordpress and Dreamweaver
• Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, and PowerPoint
Other Requirements:
• Submit to and pass a background screening conducted by HireRight
Physical Demands:
• Must be able to sit for long periods of time
• Must be able to view computer screen for extended periods of time
• Must be able to weed and sheet vinyl and stand for a period of 2 hours
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds
