Position Announcement
Title: Onsite Program Director, Full Time Exempt
Reports To: Deputy Director and Program Team
Customary Schedule: a. Customary Work Hours: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM b. Customary Work Days: Monday – Friday

The incumbent must embody the principles of nonviolence, setting the example of engaged, respectful communication with all we encounter.
The Onsite Program Director is responsible for strategizing, planning and implementing Destiny Arts Center’s onsite programmatic goals locally, regionally and nationally. As the primary contact for our main site programs (excluding our performance companies), the Onsite Program Director defines our cultural space and is primarily responsible for leading our main site program activities, cultivating the relationships and culture that define our onsite activities and therefore engaging the larger community through our programs. Creating a safe, welcoming environment with and for the staff, students, families and the public, this position directs the look and feel of our physical space and how our community engages and interacts within it. This position provides high levels of customer care attending to caregivers’, students’ and teaching artists’ needs, ensuring the highest quality and level of programs are offered.
Primary responsibilities for the incumbent fall into 5 critical areas:
1. Provides program development, leadership, oversight and evaluation ensuring innovative mission-aligned programs in collaboration with Leadership Team;
2. Develops and maintains relationships with all active students, parents/guardians, and main site teaching artists;
3. Works with the Leadership Team ( specifically, Artistic Director, Head Martial Arts Instructor and Deputy Director) to coach and mentor all teaching artists and staff motivating high performance levels and compliance will all rules and regulations;
4. Manages all program administration including grant research, writing, reports and evaluations for corresponding programs;
5. Oversees space rental relationships and the space rental calendar.
Supervises: Onsite Program Assistant, Onsite Engagement Coordinator and Culture Keeper.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Development
• Collaborates with other staff trainers to create and participate in regular staff trainings.
• Integrates feedback and programmatic recommendations from students, caregivers and teaching artists when appropriate and communicates valuable feedback to Program Team.
• Improves and develops programs (staying aligned with Destiny’s mission).
• Analyzes student and caregiver survey information and makes program recommendations and changes based on results.
• Supports fundraising for onsite programs (i.e. grant research and writing).
• Collaborates with Program and Leadership Team to create, update and implement classroom curriculum.
Curriculum Design
• Work with Artistic Director and Chief Martial Arts Instructor to update and create program curriculum
• Monitor curriculum implementation in all onsite programs for effectiveness and make changes as needed to written curriculum
Relationship Development
• Establishes and maintains connection with the main site students and their parents/guardians to ensure maximum attendance in Destiny’s main site programs.
• Plans and facilitates interdisciplinary events.
• Plans and produces student and family orientations and special program days.
• Works with Outreach Programs Director to recruit outreach program students into main site programs.
• Oversees caregiver calls when students are late or absent.
• Collaborates with appropriate staff to recruit students from neighborhood schools into main site programs.
• Outreaches to neighbors and neighborhood organizations about classes, workshops, performances and events.
• Manages space rental relationships and space rental calendar in collaboration with support staff.
• Develop and foster formal referral relationships and/or partnerships with complementary service organizations.
Management
• Works with Program Team to monitor all teaching artists to ensure that the Five Fingers of Violence Prevention curriculum is being taught regularly to all Destiny main site students.
• Ensures teaching artists and support staff are meeting expectations of employment. If not, take relevant corrective action.
• Supports addressing personnel issues in partnership with Deputy Director
• Conducts regular classroom visits and conducts one performance review per year for each onsite teaching artist, following performance appraisal guidelines.
• Serves as Senior Counselor for Camp Destiny and Martial Arts Summer Camps.
• Responsible for recruitment, hiring and off-boarding of main site and Camp Destiny teaching artists with Deputy Director’s support.
• Coordinating Camp Destiny youth staff and volunteers.
• Responsible for hiring and off boarding culture keeper(s)/security and receptionists.
• Supervises culture keeper(s)/security and receptionists to ensure effectiveness.
• Evaluates culture keeper(s)/security and receptionists at least once a year ensuring performance objectives are being met.
Outreach and Marketing
• Coordinates publicity for events, classes and summer programs. This includes, but is not limited to, placing ads in newspapers and other publications, coordinating the attendance at events/fairs that advertise after school and summer programs, and coordinating the creation and distribution of press releases and packets for major DAC events.
• Coordinates tabling at community events.
• Manages calendar for mailings, events and special programmatic projects.
• Coordinates production of posters, postcards and flyers for special events and performances.
• Manages program brochure creation and print schedule.
• Produces Constant Contact emails and social media as they relate to Onsite programs, in coordination with Leadership Team Coordinate Volunteers and Interns
• Directs recruitment, screening, placement and training of volunteers.
• Develops appropriate, substantive results-oriented projects for interns and other volunteers.
• Directs supervision and evaluation of volunteers.
• Maintains completed records on past interns projects and evaluation.
Support Event Production
• Participates in planning and producing family orientations, fundraising events and special program days.
• Directs coordination of volunteers for programmatic events.
• Works with Program Team on all aspects of preparations related to recitals (December and June).
• Manages the coordination of event logistics such as refreshments, tickets, decorations, information tables, etc. Events include but are not limited to December and June recitals.
• Oversees lobby management and acquisition of concessions for all DAYPC/DJC spring performances.
Oversee Administrative Operation of Programs
• Establishes and oversees administrative procedures.
• Plans and administers budgets for programs, equipment and services.
• Participates in the determination of organizational policies regarding such issues as participant eligibility, program requirements, and program benefits.
• Prepares and maintain records and reports, such as budgets.
• Communicates with families about all aspects of programs. This includes having detailed knowledge about each class (style(s) taught) and background on each teaching artist.
• Manages student registration, including collecting participant data, in collaboration with appropriate staff.
• Maintains student records and regular reports on program participation and participant data, in collaboration with appropriate staff.
• Responsible for meeting and exceeding income targets, including all processes of fee collection.
• Manages staff that maintains program related supplies such as t-shirts, martial arts uniforms and equipment, cups, first aid kits.
• Designs and implements regular communication to onsite families.
• Design and implements facility and program flow and procedure.
• Coordinates and administers student and caregiver surveys twice a year.
• Collects, files and assists in tallying survey data.
• Answers phone in compliance with the Phone Call Etiquette/Customer Service Information Sheet.
• Works with teaching artists and support staff to ensure all registered students are in class.
Manage Participant Database
• Manages support staff who interface with relational database system on program participants, fee payments, contacts, and donors. Includes ensuring an updated email list of all active students, caregivers.
• Supervises data entry on program participants billing and fee payment.
• Oversees report generation as requested by Executive Director.
• Updates database as needed.
• Manages Oakland Fund for Children and Youth data collection and reporting for onsite programs.
Minimum Qualifications
• BA/BS or five + years equivalent experience
• A minimum of one year successful experience teaching in an educational environment
• A minimum of two years successful experience supervising staff
• Knowledge of effective teaching methods and curriculum development and ability to design programs to meet the learning needs of elementary and middle school students
• Experience working in an ethnically diverse community
• Energy, leadership skills, strong initiative, ability to motivate through positive reinforcement
• Availability to work with some flexibility for occasional evening or weekend events
• Strong interpersonal, team development, organizational, and management skills
• Clear background check and history indicating fitness to work with children • Negative TB Test
• Current CPR/1st Aid certification
Desired Qualifications
• Teaching credential (multiple-subjects or single-subject) and/or Master’s in Education
• Training teaching artists, experience leading classes and workshops

Environmental Conditions: The environment within the workspace is clean, well lit and free from extremes of temperature and humidity. At times, the incumbent will be required to go out-of-doors and into various parts of the facility subjecting them to variations in temperature and humidity.
