Teaching for Change, a national social justice-focused education non-profit in Washington D.C., is pleased to announce an opening for a part-time Print and Web Designer.
Teaching for Change provides teachers and parents with the tools to create schools where students learn to read, write, and change the world. Program areas include professional development for educators, parent organizing, and publications.
The Print and Web Designer plays a key role in elevating the quality of Teaching for Change’s print content and online presence. The position involves functioning as the Webmaster for Teaching for Change’s websites as well as designing communications materials and preparing posts. The Print and Web Designer will work closely with the Executive Director and Associate Director. Strong candidates will demonstrate excellent attention to detail, experience with basic web design and social media, strong communication skills, and the ability to work with a diverse staff, board, and constituency.
Responsibilities will include:
Draft and design fliers, programs, newsletters, and other communications pieces.
Prepare web layout and design for articles, news posts, social media, e-newsletters and other communications materials.
Post content to organizational websites (Drupal and WordPress).
Assure that content, design, and posts for web sites and social media are accurate, appealing, and support the vision, mission and values of Teaching for Change.
Troubleshoots technical issues with websites and ensure back-ups and software updates are complete
REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum 1 year of relevant work experience required
Portfolio of work demonstrating skills in design and web layout
Proficiency in Drupal, WordPress, HTML, and email software preferred
Proficiency in social media (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Flickr, and related applications) required
Proficiency in design software (Adobe CS) required
Book layout and design experience (both cover and interior) preferred
Clear and effective communication skills, both written and verbal
Excellent attention to detail
Ability to work independently or collaboratively
Great interpersonal/relationship skills with people of all ethnic/socio-economic backgrounds
Committed to the mission of Teaching for Change and social justice
Part-time position at the rate of approximately $17-20 per hour. Approximately 20 hours per week. Eligible for a 20% discount at Teaching for Change Books (webstore). Our office is located in the historic U Street Corridor, but remote work is possible.
