Program Associate – World Faiths Development Dialogue – Washington, DC

The World Faiths Development Dialogue (WFDD) seeks a full-time Program Associate to work 70% supporting an ongoing Senegalese interfaith initiative to promote maternal and child health and 30% supporting other health-related projects or assisting with organizational communication or development needs. The one-year term position will be based in Washington, DC with travel to Senegal.

The primary responsibility of the Program Associate will be to support an interfaith initiative in Senegal composed of a diverse group of Senegalese faith leaders who are actively engaged in promoting reproductive health in their communities. The position reports to the Program Manager and the Senegal Program Coordinator and will be based in WFDD’s Washington, DC office, housed at Georgetown University’s Berkley Center for Religion, Peace, and World Affairs. This is a term position beginning on September 15, 2015 and will expire on September 15, 2016 with an option for renewal based on performance and funding.

Established in 1998, WFDD is a small non-profit organization that bridges the worlds of faith and secular international development. WFDD works to build partnerships and encourage dialogue among faith-inspired organizations and other development actors through research, consultations, and public events. The aim of this work is twofold: to reinforce and publicize the common purposes of religious and other development institutions working to end poverty; and to explore with care and respect contentious issues around development with a view to increasing mutual understanding and opening doors to stronger partnerships.

Key responsibilities

Coordinate Senegal project components under the supervision of the Program Coordinator.
Draft project reports and briefs in English and French based on ongoing interfaith work in Senegal.
Assist in coordinating exchange visits for Senegalese members of the interfaith initiative to other West African countries.
Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in Senegal (and other countries as necessary), such as development agencies, religious leaders, and government officials.
Analyze quantitative and qualitative data from the interfaith project.
Draft and, if necessary, translate all documents pertaining to the Senegal project including invitation letters, outreach emails, trip reports, meeting agendas, and discrete reports.
Conduct interviews in Senegal and prepare edited interviews for the website.
Assist with proposal writing.
Assist in planning conferences or workshops in Washington, DC or in Senegal.
Administrative and editorial assistance as needed.
Assist with social media and web presence.

Qualifications

Master’s degree in global health or public health preferred; minimum requirement master’s degree and 1 year work experience, preferably in international development.
1+ year of work or internship experience in Francophone West Africa region.
Fluency in written and spoken French required.
Strong writing and communication skills, including formal interaction with high-level individuals.
Event planning and travel logistics experience a plus.
Knowledge of social and behavior change communication (SBCC) preferred.
Experience working in maternal and child health or reproductive health preferred.
Grant writing experience highly preferred.
Experience with social media, blogging, and communications a plus.
Comfort working with religious leaders and ability to navigate religious diversity with fairness and respect.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Attention to detail and willingness to respond to constructive feedback.
Ability to work well both as part of a team and also independently.
