Direct youth work is the primary focus of this position, including daily intensive group facilitation with teens working as TE Youth Organizers, using the Teen Empowerment Model. Each Program Coordinator works as part of a team of 2-3 staff members responsible for the day-to-day operations of a TE Youth Organizing Site, participate in staff and training functions, and conduct special projects. This is a full-time, salaried position at a Boston TE site. Responsibilities of the team include:
Implementing the TE model including conducting the hiring process to identify teens to work as Youth Organizers and facilitating daily 2-3 hour sessions with Youth Organizers to create community and city-wide social change initiatives
Assisting Youth Organizers in planning and implementing small and large scale events and initiatives including the annual Youth Peace Conference
Collaborating with other TE staff on cross-site projects and agency planning
Collaborating on targeted problem solving efforts with community partners, to address issues of critical importance to youth
Advocating on behalf of youth to ensure their emotional and physical health and future educational, vocational, and emotional well being
Some evenings required
Job requirements:
A minimum two years’ experience teaching and/or facilitating groups of youth, preferably urban teens, aged 14-21
Experience with community organizing, social justice work, and/or youth development
Willingness to learn and use Teen Empowerment’s approach to group facilitation and behavior management.
A sophisticated understanding of the socio-economic, educational, and other challenges facing urban communities
Excellent communication, facilitation, conflict resolution and mediation skills
Ability to work as a team and with diverse stakeholders in the community
Ability to multi-task and manage multiple responsibilities
Commitment to Teen Empowerment’s mission.
A bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience, higher degree preferred
Bilingual and arts experience are a plus
Salary: $30-40,000 commensurate with experience. This is a full-time 40 hour a week salaried position with benefits. Some evenings required.
