Organization Background:
Founded in 1992, After-School All-Stars is a national non-profit organization which provides free, daily afterschool programs to nearly 75,000 children in need on nearly 350 school sites in 15 chapters across the U.S. Offering three hours of daily programs that combine Academic, Enrichment, and Health and Fitness activities, ASAS is responding to America’s high school dropout, youth obesity, student empowerment and economic crises. Finishing just its second year in Washington DC, ASAS is serving nearly 300 students at Stuart-Hobson Middle School in Ward 6 and Hart Middle School in Ward 8, with potential to expand to more sites in the next three years.
A Unique Opportunity:
ASAS is currently seeking an exceptional and dynamic leader for the Washington, DC Program Manager (PM) position to provide program leadership, coaching, and vision for the expansion efforts in DC. The PM will report to the Executive Director, Washington, DC and work closely with the Vice President of Programs, based in Los Angeles, CA, and the ASAS National Network Department. General responsibilities include overall program management, local community leadership, and implementation of the ASAS program model and initiatives. The PM can expect to gain a wealth of knowledge about non-profit management, connections to many organizations in the afterschool/education fields, and excellent leadership development experience.
Specific Responsibilities:
Supervise two site coordinators at the two DC sites and ensure Washington, DC is a model site for advocacy and training
Assist in hiring and program start up at a 3rd site in the spring of 2016
Work closely with the chapter leadership team to manage successful implementation of the ASAS national program model and initiatives
Serve as a liaison with school personnel and community groups to maintain positive public and working relations of program with community partners and local boards
Advise chapter Site Coordinators on communications with school administrators, families, and other school staff
Work with Site Coordinators to develop and thoroughly understand site budgets
Ensure that ASAS sites are meeting attendance requirements in accordance with school district and grant guidelines, and that national initiatives are being implemented
Ensure that student records and attendance data are maintained in an accurate manner
Assist Site Coordinators and site staff with developing a strategy for recruiting and retaining student participants
Act swiftly and demonstrate sense of urgency to identify and solve problems in implementation
Work with national evaluation team to assess success of program and develop program improvement plans
Travel to off-site meetings, trainings and events
Perform other duties as assigned
Who should apply?
The PM will embody ASAS’s core values: entrepreneurial, collaborative, transparent, accountable, and proactive. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to lead, coach, and train program staff to accomplish demonstrated objectives. This position requires a commitment to the mission to provide youth quality afterschool programming. The successful candidate will have three years or more of non-profit or related youth development program experience. The individual will have a familiarity with and passion for working with low income youth. The individual will also be comfortable with data collection and evaluation.
An undergraduate degree is required. Teaching experience, experience running ASAS programs, or a Master’s Degree in education, or a similar field is preferred. Baccalaureate degree in education, social or human services, child development, recreation or related field is desirable.
Experience working in a leadership or supervisory capacity in a school, after school, day camp or community youth outreach setting.
Familiarity with quality criteria for after school programs.
Familiarity with youth development principles and middle school aged youth
Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate sensitivity to others as well as respond to critical incidents and act swiftly in an emergency situation.
Familiarity with basic computer software programs
Must clear DOJ & FBI Livescan and Tuberculosis Clearance
Familiarity and experience with diverse populations strongly preferred
Availability to work evenings and Saturdays as needed
