Program / Operations Associate – Room to Grow – New York, NY

Are you a people person who loves wearing many hats? If you care deeply about babies and families in need, love being at the hub of diverse activities, and speak strong conversational Spanish, this could be your dream job and launch an exciting career path! If you don’t love a small but healthy dose of daily chaos or suddenly being asked to lend a hand, this may not be the right fit for you; but if you’re interested, here’s more about the role…

A day in the life

– You run reception 4 days a week and trade seats with someone for the 5th day to free you up for special projects around the office

– You’re the face of the organization for many people, including client families, donors, volunteers and anyone who calls or stops by, so we expect everyone to have the absolute most glowing impression of us through you (even if you have to say no sometimes, for example, to someone who asks to donate adult clothing – we only serve babies).

– You’re ready to jump up at a moment’s notice to help folks who drop off bags of baby things for us, or…

– You may find yourself sitting at your desk for hours, quietly inputting donations into the database during a lull

– You might set aside a few hours to call client families to schedule their next appointment

– You’re responsible for managing office expenses and researching to find the best deals, so bargain shoppers and coupon cutters are welcome!

– You keep our family center looking great all the time, attending to the working space and “baby boutique”, which includes organizing lots of cute baby items

– You might be asked to help your colleagues on a special project like an event, volunteer night, or data crunching exercise

Why this job matters

– It’s pretty much universally proven that supporting babies in their first 3 years of life is the best way to break the cycle of intergenerational poverty

– Offering families a dignified, warm experience with us is critical to achieving impact

– Quality is our mantra, in everything we do, starting with how we treat people all the way to the condition of the baby items and our office vibe

– We know that sometimes the small, silent tasks are the foundation for everyone else’s success, so we need you rock it for everyone’s sake!

Who you’ll work with

– We’re small but have big aspirations for the future, so you’ll know everyone here and be an important part of an exciting building period for the organization at large

– You’ll report to the Manager, External Relations, but have lots of dotted lines to others who will care about the quality and efficacy of your work, including folks on these teams:

– Inventory and volunteer

– Fundraising

– Communications

– the Executive Director

– and colleagues in Boston

What you bring to the table

– It’s ok if this is your first job, but it doesn’t have to be; either way you’re a quick study

– We’re serious about Spanish fluency, so don’t skip over that

– You don’t have to know how to use a Salesforce database, but you “get” how systems work

– You’re organized and know how to keep a good “to do” list to manage your various responsibilities

– Both data and people matter to you, so you treat both with equal respect, diligence and attention to detail

– You’re cool with things changing constantly. It’s never a dull moment, and you love that because you’re always learning something new.

– You’re curious – always asking questions to understand things more deeply – and enjoy finding new (and better!) ways of doing things
