Public Relations / Communications Manager – ACT Theatre – Seattle, WA

The Public Relations & Communications Manager is a key member of the ACT marketing team, responsible for creating the written content for productions, the website, email communications, social media, and press releases. The Press Relations & Communications Manager is the publicist for events and activities, promoting the organization and sharing information to media outlets. As the publicist, they are responsible for maintaining relationships with the media and securing coverage in all areas of media: television, radio, print, and digital.

The Public Relations & Communications Manager drafts email communications to ACT’s patron base, sharing insights on shows, events, and updates from the theatre. The position is also the social media manager which includes maintaining ACT’s presence and engagement in digital conversation through various social media sites, applications, and networks.

Key Responsibilities:

Work with the Director of Marketing and Communications to create a communications strategy for each ACT production
Write promotional and informational language for productions, events, and initiatives at ACT
Maintain relationships with the media and invites them to ACT events as well as engagement opportunities with ACT leadership
Maintain an annual publicity calendar
Send timely Press Releases
Present strategic angles for coverage for each production
Schedule and design ACT’s email content
Plan a weekly strategy for social media and assign duties to an in-house team who post on ACT’s behalf
Maintain the visual branding and social media sites
Coordinate and oversee the art direction of publicity photoshoots for productions
Monitor, chronicle and archive all media mentions of ACT Theatre
Update the website with new images and releases
Prepare artists for media interviews and appearances
Transport artists to and from media appearances
Attend all First Rehearsal events, Technical Rehearsal Photo and Video shoots, Opening Nights, Press nights, Ceremonies, and other important events as required

Educational Background:

Bachelor’s of Arts in Marketing, Communications, or other Arts related field

Experience:

2-3 years minimum in a professional communications position

Skills:

Excellent grammar and writing skills
Ability to network effectively
Ability to write short, informative, and exciting content to intrigue readers and press
Excellent creative visioning skills
Persuasive skills and ability to convey confidence and leadership
Persistence in a professional, tactful, and respectful manner
Ability to stay on top of trends in Social Media and use best practices to implement them
Preferred experience in Tessitura and Adobe Suite
Knowledge and comfort in the administration of Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Instagram

Requirements:

Must have a Washington State drivers license
The ability to lift 50 lbs.
Flexible schedule and ability to work evenings and weekends
