Ecocity Builders is a leader in sustainable city planning and keeper of the Ecocity World Summit, the longest running conference series on this topic. We are seeking qualified candidates for the “Social Media and Communications Intern” position.
A successful candidate will posses the following:
Very strong writing skills
Familiarity with social media platforms and processes
Interest in city planning, sustainability, social justice or similar
Attention to detail, and problem solving skills
Ability to work self-directed in a busy small non-profit environment
The Social Media and Communications Intern will work directly under the Media and Outreach officer and be responsible for tasks including but not limited to:
Managing social media presence of several projects using Twitter, & Facebook and other platforms
Staying on top of current trends and news in sustainable urbanism
Helping promote the Ecocity World Summit 2015
Crafting compelling original copy for blog posts on Ecocities Emerging and partner blogs using WordPress
Promoting Ecocity Builders events
Measuring the success of our social media strategies
Additional tasks as required
Familiarity with the following is a plus, but not required: WordPress, Constant Contact, Adobe InDesign, Microsoft Word, MailChimp
Super bonus skills: Advanced knowledge of language other than English, especially Spanish, Arabic, French, or Chinese; coding/web development; Understanding of GIS.
This position provides the opportunity for on-the-job learning of skills that are vital to marketing and communications work as well as environmental city planning and general non-profit management. The intern will be a respected member of our team and we will provide her or him with a rich professional learning environment.
Prospective interns must be able to complete at least 6 hours of work per week. Initially these hours must be filled at our Downtown Oakland office. Partial telecommuting is optional after apprenticeship period.
Note: Candidates must be able to commit to a period of 3 months. Interns who can commit longer are eligible for additional benefits (See stipend/wage information).
