First Unitarian Society in Newton (FUSN) seeks a dynamic Youth Programs Coordinator to develop, sustain, and enhance religious education programming for high school youth and to help all teenagers connect with youth programming and the congregation in general.
The position is part-time at 15 hours/week for 10 months/year. It reports to our Director of Lifespan Religious Education (DLRE) and works closely with our youth, adult volunteers, lay leaders and other FUSN staff members.
Located in West Newton, 10 miles west of Boston and accessible by Commuter Rail, FUSN is an energetic, mid-sized congregation, with a Lifespan RE Program that intentionally builds community while developing and nurturing UU identity and spiritual growth in children, youth, and adults.
Responsibilities of the Youth Programs Coordinator include:
Work with youth, DLRE and volunteer adult advisors to organize and support weekly youth group meetings.
Oversee and support Adult Advisors, including scheduling coverage.
Coordinate monthly Youth/Adult Committee (YAC) meetings.
Participate in Coming of Age Fridays (monthly).
Attend weekly staff group meetings.
Prepare monthly reports for and attend RE Committee meetings.
Communicate with the congregation about youth programs.
Plan and organize youth-related special events (e.g. social justice projects, field trips, milestone events, youth worship service, community-buliding gatherings).
Provide ongoing communication between and among DLRE, youth and their parents/guardians, RE volunteers, and the FUSN community.
Chaperone occasional overnight or weekend youth events.
Participate as requested and as time permits in special youth-related events outside of FUSN such as overnights, youth conferences, field trips and social justice projects.
Participate in larger UU religious education community as time permits (e.g. District RE cluster, Youth-Adult Committee, Youth Programs Coordinator Covenant Group, youth volunteer trainings, etc.).
This position requires availability on Sunday evenings,one Friday evening/month, monthly committee meetings, occasional Sunday mornings, and the occasional weekend overnight.
Qualifications:
Must be 25 years old or older.
Experience in coordinating and supporting volunteers.
B.A. or B.S. college degree or equivalent experience in a youth-related field.
Familiarity with Unitarian Universalist principles, values, and culture
