Sci Academy is looking to hire a Music Teacher and Band Director. Starting in the Fall, Sci Academy’s new facility at the Abramson site will have physical space to store instruments and practice.
Role Description: During the School Day
Prepare all scholars for college success or their most rigorous post-secondary outcome. Teach Music to 9th thru 12th grade scholars enrolled in Music. Teach scholars starting with the fundamentals of reading music through performance.
Ensure that all scholars in the band maintain a 2.5 GPA and are eligible upon graduation for the Taylor Opportunity Program for Students (TOPS Scholarship).
Support Special Education and Intervention Services during the school day. Work as a Paraprofessional, Behavioral Interventionist or Intervention Teacher within our Intervention Team to support individual scholars and small group instruction.
Role Description: After School
Organize the band and performance teams for Parade Season. Every year, the Carver High School band participates in Parade Season. We are looking for someone who will lead the Carver Marching Band in continuing this tradition. The band leader would be responsible for securing Carver’s participation in multiple parades during the season.
Organize the band and performance teams for Football Season. The Carver marching band and performance teams participates in all home games during football season.
Continue to grow our band programs. Grow our current programs, including continuing to build on the skill levels of the students, adding more students, and preparing for more performances in the school and community. Many of our students have had little or no experience with music; growth in their skills and abilities will be vital for the success of any program.

Ensure that all scholars participating in the Band program have 95% school attendance and band practice attendance (excepting times when scholars need to attend tutoring). Ensure that all scholars in the band maintain a 2.5 GPA and are eligible upon graduation for the Taylor Opportunity Program for Students (TOPS Scholarship).
Responsibilities
Work in our Special Education and Intervention Department during the school day.
Lead practice Monday thru Thursday from 4 to 6 pm and on Fridays after 1:30 dismissal.
Ensure all band participants understand how band will help them achieve their goals of college success.
Hold high expectations for each student.
Demonstrate strong teaching skills.
Collaboratively develop and institute universal student policies within classrooms and throughout the school campus.
Foster positive rapport and relationships with students.
Create an enthusiastic and optimistic learning environment.
Communicate frequently with parents.
Set and meet measurable goals for students.
Demonstrate flexibility and creatively embrace the ambiguities of building an organization focused on constant improvement.
Serve on school committees as needed.
Perform clerical duties, as required, relating to textbooks, instructional supplies, student reports and records, attendance reports, etc.
Remain on call in the evenings to provide student support.
Qualifications
Desire to work at a college-prep high school rebuilding urban education in the city of New Orleans.
Desire to grow as a teacher and person.
Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
Deep belief that all students, regardless of their backgrounds and educational pasts, have the potential to succeed in college and beyond, and that it is the responsibility of schools to help students realize that potential.
Strong knowledge in content area of choice.
