8th Grade Math and Science Teacher – Gateway Public Schools – San Francisco, CA

Gateway Public Schools is seeking an 8th Grade Math and Science teacher for Gateway Middle School, a public charter school in San Francisco. Gateway Middle School is committed to helping each student – regardless of learning style or previous academic achievement – learn the skills, habits and knowledge necessary for success in college and beyond.

Gateway’s Approach to Math and Science:

Extended Math classes (80 minutes) to support conceptual learning as well as fluency and skill development
A focus on CCSS-Math practices through the use of Number Talks, collaborative learning, and complex tasks
A commitment to collaborative learning and equity through Complex Instruction practices
An inquiry-based approach to Science, focused on the process and practices scientists use to investigate the world

Middle School Math/Science Teacher Responsibilities:

Teach two eighty-minute blocks of 8th Grade Common Core Mathematics, focusing on both conceptual and procedural learning
Teach two sixty minute sections 8th Grade Physical Science with a focus on learning scientists’ habits, process and practices
Plan curriculum, lessons and assessments in collaboration with other Math/Science teachers and learning specialists
Lead a daily Advisory of 16-18 students, supporting their social-emotional growth and academic learning.
Collaborate with subject area and grade level teams to plan curriculum, analyze student learning, differentiate instruction and build a positive school culture

Qualifications:

Commitment to Gateway’s mission is essential, including a desire to work with a diverse student body, including students with learning differences and first-generation college bound students
Ability to work collaboratively with a dedicated staff and involved parent body
At least 3 years experience working with middle school students in an urban public school preferred
Desire to be part of developing common instructional practices and building the larger school culture and community
Current California credential required (Multiple Subject or Math and Science Single Subjects)
