AMERICORPS NEW AMERICAN INTEGRATION PROGRAM
The NEW AMERICAN INTEGRATION PROGRAM (NAIP) is an AmeriCorps program administered by the MIRA Coalition, in partnership with English for New Bostonians. Up to 30 NAIP members will be placed at various community-based organizations across Massachusetts to address barriers to economic empowerment among immigrants and refugees by focusing their service on job readiness training (including ESOL instruction) and/or citizenship services (including application assistance and civics instruction).
ABOUT BEST Hospitality Training: Boston Education, Skills and Training (BEST) Corp. is an independent non-profit organization focusing on the workforce development needs of the hospitality industry. We serve members of UNITE HERE Local 26 and those seeking employment in the hospitality industry. Our mission is to provide individuals the education, skills and training to excel in the hospitality industry and in their personal lives.
SERVICE POSITION TITLE: ESL Instructor
SERVICE DESCRIPTION: The AmeriCorps ESL instructor’s primary responsibility will be to teach English contextualized the hospitality industry. This individual may also be assigned to prepare clients for the US citizenship test or to teach computers in order to help people get and retain jobs. Previous AmeriCorps members have contributed their talents in other ways, as well, depending on skill: e.g., assisting with social media, photography, grant writing, event planning, etc.
SERVICE LOCATION: 101 Station Landing, Medford, MA 02155
SERVICE SCHEDULE: M-F, 9AM – 5PM except for two days which will be noon – 8 PM. Members commit to full-time service from September 5, 2017 through August 2018.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Teach English and possibly one computer class or citizenship class
· Support volunteer tutor program by assisting with tutor matching and training, as needed
· Administer BEST Plus test of oral English skills
· Record minutes at weekly staff meeting
· Salesforce (database) – Input all data related to classes, attendance, testing, etc.
· Assist with social media
· Travel at least once/month for NAIP member meetings;
· Make a full-time, 11-month commitment
MARGINAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Substitute teaching
· Update class resources website as needed
· Assist with job seeker program as needed
· Outreach to hotels
· Update Facebook and Twitter
QUALIFICATIONS
· ESL teaching experience preferred
· Excellent organizational and communication skills.
· Excellent computer skills with high proficiency in Microsoft Office suite with an emphasis on MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience in data entry, tracking, and analysis. Web site experience a plus.
· Interest in and commitment to national and community service
· Experience working with diverse populations
· High school diploma or GED equivalent
· 17 years of age or older
· Must be a US Citizen, US National or Legal Permanent Resident
· Must be willing to undergo a National Service Criminal History Check, including screenings through the National Sex Offender Public Website, a name-based search of the statewide criminal history registry both in Massachusetts and your state of residence upon application to our program, and a fingerprint-based FBI check
