Seattle Tilth is an environmental education organization that seeks to inspire and educate people to safeguard our natural resources while building an equitable and sustainable local food system. The Children’s Garden Coordinator is responsible for leading and teaching children’s educational programming at Seattle Tilth learning gardens and school garden locations while ensuring a high quality educational experience for all visitors and participants. Programming includes summer camps, garden and farm tours, and mobile classroom lessons. In conjunction with delivering children’s programming, this position will participate in garden planning and maintenance, curriculum development and volunteer management. This position flexes between 30-40 hours/week based on seasons and reports to the Children’s Education Program Manager.
The successful candidate will have strong organic vegetable gardening and composting knowledge, experience teaching in non-traditional settings and experience working with teachers and students from grades PK-12. A history of successfully working with people from a variety of racial, cultural and economic backgrounds is important as is the ability to problem solve and work in dynamic settings. Required qualifications also include excellent communication skills, self-direction and strong organizational and computer skills.
This position requires occasional evening and weekend work as well as a reliable personal vehicle to transport self and other materials to education and outreach locations. This position is eligible for benefits including medical, dental and vision insurance, employee-funded Flexible Spending Account for qualified childcare, healthcare and transportation expenses, 401k with employer matching, paid vacation, sick and holiday time. Compensation is DOE.
