Co-op Preschool Teacher – Seattle’s Progressive Preschool

Seattle’s Progressive Preschool is a cooperative school seeking a nurturing, motivated, and creative teacher to teach our 3 to 5 year olds starting in September 2016.

Classes meet Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays:

3-5 Y/O class: 9:30 AM – 12:30 PM

Pre-K: 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM

We are a community-centered preschool that integrates a strong anti-bias and environmental justice curriculum into the early education of our children. Our spacious, light-filled classroom, on-site playground and garden provide an environment in which children, their parents, and their teachers can learn and grow together. We are looking for someone who will cultivate trusting, caring, collaborative relationships with all members of our cooperative preschool community.  This person must have the ability to communicate effectively with children and their caregivers inside and outside of class.

Qualifications:
Degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent experience
Early Childhood Education Experience
Experience using emotion coaching as a tool for managing conflict and promoting emotional growth
Experience guiding assistant teachers in the classroom as a lead teacher
Experience working with ELL families and/or diverse student populations
Experience working in a co-op environment preferred

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Developing and implementing age-appropriate and emergent curriculum that incorporates our school’s green and social justice missions, integrating parents’ ideas, skills, and other contributions
Offering a balance of free and structured play time that supports the development of social, emotional, cognitive, fine and gross motor skills
Providing guidance to parents working in the classroom as teacher’s assistants, modeling emotion coaching and other strategies for classroom management
Communicating regularly with parentsaboutcurriculum and child’s development
Collaborating with the Sprouts (2 Y/O) Class Teacher to create a curriculum that enables children to build skills and experiences from year to year as they move through SPP’s three or four year program
Collaborating with SPP’s Board to promote a healthy, highly- functioning, thriving community that enhances the lives of all members
Attending to light administrative duties

Additional requirements:
Current CPR & First Aid Certification
Fulfill ADA requirements, including being able to lift and carry 35-60 lbs

Seattle’s Progressive Preschool is affiliated with Seattle Central Community College, which provides a Parent Education Instructor for the school. The Parent Education Instructor is a collaborative member of the teaching team providing early childhood education resources and cooperative preschool experience.
