Juma Ventures (www.juma.org) operates an award-winning youth development program with the mission of breaking the cycle of poverty by ensuring that young people complete a four-year college education. Juma empowers low-income youth through an innovative program that integrates employment in social enterprises, college preparation, career services and financial education. Since its founding in 1993, Juma has employed more than 4,000 young people who have generated $22 million in enterprise revenue, earned $4 million in wages and saved $2 million for higher education. We operate 14 social enterprises in six cities: San Francisco, Oakland, San Diego, Seattle, New Orleans and Santa Clara.

Role Overview
Juma will be hiring for two positions this spring, one full-time college coach and one part-time college coach (approx. 20 hr/week). The college coach is an entry level position that is responsible for providing direct support to Juma college youth to insure that they successfully complete a four year college education. The college coach is also responsible for helping define and refine college proiigrams, wokring one one one with the youth as they transition to college, connecting youth wih on campus resources, helping youth utilize their match savings scholarship, providing one on one support to youth by phone, email, social networking sites and through the ordanization of college events. The College Coach will also be responsible for making sure ethat Juma college youth have the finnacial, emotional, academic and social supports to secceed in college. The position reports to the Bay Area Program Manager.
Specific Job Duties
Establish and maintain positive relationships with college youth.
Develop strategic relationships with on campus resources, including academic, financial and social services to coordinate services for Juma college youth to ensure youth engage with them successfully.
Maintain monthly communication with youth through phone, email, social networking and on-campus visits.
Provide college youth with transitional support, including financial aid and academic advising.
Collaborate with Assets Department to assist youth in purchasing support and full utilization of Juma scholarship and matched savings account money.
Track efforts and communication with youth in a timely manner using the Beyond 12/Facebook platform.
Support youth in gaining academic, social and professional experience during the summer.
Other Duties as assigned.
Key Experience & Strengths
Required:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
1 year experience working with youth from underserved communities.
Excellent verbal communication skills and strong writing and editing capabilities.
Ability to multi-task and manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Advanced computer skills with Microsoft Office and the Windows environment; proficiency in relational databases.
Ability to work well independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team; work well with diverse styles and personalities.
Willingness to work outside of office hours on occasion to support events.
Strong commitment to supporting youth and to advancing social change.
