College Success Manager – South Central Scholars Foundation – Rancho Palos Verdes, CA

The South Central Scholars Foundation is a unique Los Angeles-based nonprofit with a proven replicable model for positioning talented, underserved students in top universities to achieve strong outcomes after graduating from college. Our mission is to assist highly motivated students from under-resourced communities around Los Angeles to achieve academic and personal success in college and beyond through financial scholarships, mentorships, career development, and more.

Summary:

South Central Scholars is looking to recruit a dynamic, energetic, and experienced College Success Manager who will guide our high school seniors through the college application process and will support a caseload of 50-60 struggling college students each semester. We believe that college graduation is not enough for our students. We support them to graduate with above a 3.0 GPA in a challenging major they are passionate about. This takes the support of an experienced College Success Manager to assist with course planning, time management, self-confidence, and goal planning.

Reporting Relationships:

The College Success Manager works under the supervision of the Executive Director and in collaboration with other staff, board members, and interns. This position does not currently supervise any staff.

Duties & Responsibilities:

College Student Case Management: systematic check-ins with 50-60 college students across the country. Help students identify obstacles to success and create action plan to address those issues. Continued check-in and support until students are back on the right path.
High school student guidance: group and individual guidance to 60 high school students each year. Tailored plans for each student based on best-fit schools. This may involve parent education as well.
College Liaison: build upon existing relationships with colleges to strengthen the name recognition of SCS and desire to recruit our students. Also responsible for establishing new relationships with additional colleges (admissions, financial aid, diversity and inclusion, mental health center etc…)
Data Management: tracks and records all communications and work ina Salesforce database, and utilizes Dropbox to collaborate on documents and projects with other staff. This position requires daily data entry, advanced knowledge of excel, creating charts and tables, and writing concise reports.
Event Planning: plan all events and activities related to the College Success Program, such as webinars, workshops, and trainings.

Qualifications & Expectations: Required

Bachelor’s Degree
Minimum 5 years work experience after college graduation
Experience working with high school and college students
High level of understanding of FAFSA, college application process, accessing campus resources, advocating for student support, and mental health services
Ability to interface with senior level executives and college students with equal comfort
Love for technology and efficiency — Advanced computer skills and working knowledge and experience with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Prepare and conduct effective presentations
Attend meetings and training events, which may include occasional travel and fall outside of normal work hours
Knowledge and passion for issues facing minorities in higher education desirable
Advanced degree in a related field desirable
Experience building a program from the ground up desirable
