The Community Engagement Senior Associate will work at a regional level under the supervision of the National Director, Community Engagement with dotted line reporting to the National Directors of Education & Advocacy to directly support FARE’s education, advocacy, and development efforts at the community level. The senior associate will serve as a community liaison for FARE’s education initiatives – including the FARE College Food Allergy Program, the SafeFARE: Dining Out with Food Allergies program, the FARE Education Network and more – and will support state-level advocacy efforts, while also having responsibility for building community partnerships that will support signature development efforts, including events and the FARE Walk for Food Allergies. This is a remote position based out of either the Dallas or Houston area.
Essential duties and Responsibilities
Ensure all local stakeholders are aware of FARE education materials, resources and community events (e.g., walks), and using them appropriately
Help identify and lead creation of community advisory council/committee with appropriate representation and leadership to support success across education, advocacy, research, and development
Sponsor community needs assessment and creating plan for addressing identified needs as well as establishing and communicating community priorities
Enable expansion of local service provision by community stakeholders, reducing provision of that local service element by FARE’s national staff
Lay the groundwork for the creation of Signature Events and other development programs. Engage FARE staff to carry forward events and programs while maintaining shared accountability for overall community development success
Support FARE’s College Food Allergy Program by developing relationships with colleges and universities within or proximate to designated community, working with them to develop guidelines, implementing best practices, managing events and providing training and support
Develop relationships with restaurants and state/local restaurant associations for purposes of marketing the SafeFARE program and encouraging restaurants and their employees to complete food allergy training
Serve as a community point of contact for advocacy initiatives that encourage greater participation in FARE’s education programs and that enhance the ability of individual entities to “opt in” to voluntary adherence to existing laws regarding food allergy safety, such as stock epinephrine in the schools
Apply best practices for volunteer recruitment, training, and appreciation
Work closely with other staff throughout the organization to achieve all program goals
Work closely with the Communications team to provide current content about the community engagement program for social media and blogs
Assist members of the Education Department with other tasks as requested
Give presentations to community stakeholders and represent FARE at a variety of community and regional events
Provide community and regional event support as needed
Required knowledge, skills and abilities
Willingness to travel, primarily within designated community, up to 50% of the time
Knowledge of food allergies preferred
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form are essential for this position, including the ability to effectively interact with peers, constituents, and internal and external stakeholders
Strong organizational skills and the ability to work successfully in a deadline-orientated environment
Strong analytical, problem-solving and decision-making capabilities
Exceptional organizational network-building skills
Integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed with demonstrated passion for the organization’s mission and commitment to working collaboratively
Education and experience
Bachelor’s degree in Health Education, Public Health, or related field; Master’s degree or CHES certification preferred
5-7 years of relevant education, development, health, and/or advocacy related experience with 2-3 years of experience in management of grant-funded health and/or education-related projects preferred
Familiar with Microsoft office suite of programs, especially MS Word, PowerPoint and Excel
