Community School Coordinator – Access Art Inc – Baltimore, MD

Access Art is seeking a full time Community School Coordinator for Access Art, Morrell Park Elementary-Middle School, and the surrounding Morrell Park Neighborhood. The Community School Coordinator will support school climate, deepen family engagement, and strategically leverage community resources during and outside the school day, based on specific neighborhood needs to promote student achievement and family-community well-being

Responsibilities:

Coordinator will assess and identify the needs of the overall school community including academic needs, youth development needs, family & community supports, health and mental health needs, as well as college and career readiness needs.
Leverage and develop strong partnerships between the school and other community organizations to promote family and student well being.
Identify and engage with students who are chronically absent and support families to remove the barriers that keep youth from attending school regularly.
Deepen family engagement at the school and will build a network of community members linked to the school; encourage and support resident participation in activities and events that increase the social capital in the neighborhood.
Identify and support neighborhood leadership and foster partnerships that support school and community goals.
Promote school culture & climate by supporting positive communication between families and the school, conducting mediations between students, building relationships with parents and students allowing for better distribution of resources and information.
Work closely with the Principal and school staff to promote student achievement and will serve on all relevant school-based support teams.
Complete written reports on status and progress toward School & Community Engagement Strategy goals.

Qualifications:

Bachelors Degree or advanced degree. Must have experience and past success in coalition building, community organizing and advocacy, using community data to drive engagement and leverage resources; experience in conducting community inquiry groups; an ability to communicate with diverse populations; analytical skills; and ability to mobilize people to action. Strong interpersonal skills are required. Must be highly organized, detail oriented, able to handle various tasks efficiently, and write effective reports. Previous work in school based settings an advantage.
