Position Summary:

The Development Coordinator will work directly with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to meet the Independent School Alliance’s annual fundraising goals for foundation grants, corporate support, individual giving, special events, and other revenue sources. This position requires a focused and passionate individual who has experience dealing with high net worth individuals, foundations, and corporations. The Development Coordinator will work with the Executive Director to solicit, track donations and manage fundraising campaigns. The Development Coordinator will foster new relationships and be an organizational steward for current donors and will be responsible for meeting reporting requirements and ensuring that all funding agreements are fulfilled. Responsibilities:

Strategic Development Coordination

Work with Executive Director and Board of Directors and consultants to execute an effective fundraising strategy with annual goals aligned with programmatic, operational, and financial needs.
Execute an assertive strategy to identify and secure corporate, foundation, individual and government funding partnerships.
Ensure a diversified and sustainable mix of philanthropic sources and identify new funding prospects and determine best approach.
Coordinate performance metrics, including a quarterly development dashboard and other reporting to key internal and external stakeholders.
Oversee the established donor database and ensure maintenance, accuracy and effectiveness.
Maintain strategic “moves management” plan to direct and monitor the progress of donor relationships.
Coordinate innovative strategies to promote giving to the Independent School Alliance, in particular focusing on attracting and increasing individual and leadership support.
Explore, design and execute online fundraising strategies to handle online and social media marketing and maximize potential for online giving.

Corporate and Foundation Research

Research, identify, and coordinate new corporate and foundation partnerships, as well as the grant proposal and reporting processes for corporate, foundation, and government funders.
Implement the Independent School Alliance’s sponsorship process, which includes marketing to, identifying and securing program sponsors and engaging them via a long-term stewardship strategy.
Participate in LOI/grant preparation; draft reports and correspondence;
Process gifts, produce pledge agreements, reminders and acknowledgement letters;

Major Gift Donor Research

Cultivate, maintain, and deepen relationships with existing portfolio of funders/supporters and prospects.
Execute an individual donor cultivation, solicitation, stewardship and communication plans; partner with Executive Director, Board and others to successfully grow individual giving efforts.
Research and identify major donors’ philanthropic interests and provide them with an opportunity to realize an outstanding philanthropic experience through their charitable investment of time, advocacy, and financial support to the Alliance.
Coordinate cultivation and stewardship activities for the Executive Director and Board including, internal/external meetings, face-to-face solicitation meetings, and cultivation and solicitation events.

Community Outreach and Special Events

Leverage existing and future Independent School Alliance events to raise awareness about the Alliance, fundraise and engage high net worth individuals, foundations, and corporations.
Support the Alliance staff and Board of Directors in the execution of special fundraising events.
Along with the Executive Director, create relationships with key community and political individuals with the greater Los Angeles area.
Ensure that the Alliance has a positive presence at community and education events.

Donor Stewardship

Refine and oversee our individual donor base, manage annual giving campaign, and cultivation for all donors.
Ensure diversity and sustainability of donor database.
Manage and ensure the accurate maintenance of records and donor information in the donor database.
Coordinate the development process from donor identification through collections to stewardship.
Visit current and prospective donors when requested with the Executive Director and/or Board Members.

Grant Writing

Research, write, proofread/edit high-quality compelling letters of inquiry, proposals and reports for current and new programs and other campaigns as needed.
Ensure a diversified and sustainable mix of philanthropic sources and identify new funding prospects and determine best approach.
Execute appropriate follow-up related to funded proposals, e.g. thank you letters, contracts/letters of agreement, reports deadlines and grant information tracking.
Conduct prospect research and program research to identify and analyze potential funding, deadlines and application requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required; preference given to relevant advanced degrees in marketing, advertising, or public relations.
A minimum of 3 – 5 years experience in the development field, including direct solicitation experience for the nonprofit sector.
Working knowledge of all areas within fund development, including Major Gifts, Foundation and Corporate Relations, and Annual Giving and Research.
Experience in research, grant writing, and reporting.
Ability to personally build, develop and retain strong relationships with major donors, community leaders, Board members and the Independent School Alliance team.
Demonstrated success in working with a team to design and implement fundraising campaigns, a donor base, and stewardship plans.
Familiarity with budgets and the budget-development process.
Strong marketing and event planning experience.
Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, Donor Perfect, Raiser’s Edge, or Talisma.
Understanding of and respect for the Alliance’s mission with a high level of cultural competency and sensitivity to the communities the Alliance services.
Passionate about education, diversity, and social justice.
Strong organizational and project management skills – with the ability to manage multiple assignments and quickly change priorities.
An enthusiastic and self-confident team player with interpersonal savvy, as well as the ability to work independently.
