Atrium School is seeking a highly skilled, dynamic educator for the position of Director of Curriculum and Learning. The Director of Curriculum and Learning reports directly to the Head of School and, in conjunction with the Head is responsible for overseeing the design and implementation of curriculum and the educational program, the professional development and coaching of teachers, and oversight of student learning.

The Director of Curriculum and Learning is a strong curricular and instructional leader with knowledge of both child and human development and has a keen understanding of progressive education, project-based learning and a developed understanding of supporting a range of student and teacher learners.

Responsibilities:

Curriculum and instructional leadership

Work with Head of School to identify curricular and programmatic needs of the school
Collaborate with faculty to ensure curriculum and instructional continuity
Collaborate with faculty to ensure multiculturalism in our curriculum
Lead curriculum reviews
Support teachers in developing and implementing assessment tools for learners
Oversee and implement regular curricular communication with parents, board, & public

Faculty Coaching

Work with teachers to set professional goals
Observe and supervise faculty in development and implementation of curriculum and teaching practices
Support Lead Teachers, Teachers and Specialists in a coaching model
Induction of new teachers
Support Head Teachers in mentoring of Teachers
With Head of School, conduct faculty meetings

Oversight of Professional Development program

With the Head of School create a sustainable professional development plan
With the Head of School, work with all teachers to annually develop and fulfill professional development goals
Coordinate on-campus professional development experiences
Oversee faculty professional development budget

Coordination of Student Learning

Oversee and organize student progress reports
Attend parent conferences as needed
Work with teachers on assessment of student needs
Attend Child Study meetings as needed
Observe in classrooms
Support teachers in instructional strategies
Communicate with outside specialists
Supervise and closely work with tutors
Maintain files and assessment records
Meet with parents as needed
Provide appropriate communication with consulting psychologist in between mtgs.
Follow identified students over time and across classrooms

Coordination and oversight of some of our faculty committee work

Committees to be determined in conjunction with HOS

Occasional/periodic teaching in classrooms

Qualifications:

Master’s degree or higher in Education or related field
At least 5 years teaching or administrative experience
Versed in progressive education pedagogy
Leadership experience in designing and implementing curriculum and managing change
Thorough knowledge of the developmental needs of 4-14 year olds from diverse backgrounds
Deep understanding of multicultural needs in curriculum and school culture
Strong communicator and a good listener with excellent oral and written communication skills
Highly organized commitment to diversity work and anti-racism education
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Ability to collaborate with faculty and staff, students, parents
Sense of humor
