Director of External Affairs – After-School All-Stars – Tampa, FL

Organization Background:

After-School All-Stars (ASAS) is a leading national after-school program provider. Our comprehensive school-based programs combine activities and learning to help build the knowledge and skills children need to succeed, both in school and in life. Our programs focus on middle school students attending schools where the majority of students come from low income families. Founded as a national organization by Arnold Schwarzenegger in 1992, ASAS is building a national model for after-school program delivery through our 15 Chapters, all of which serve at-risk youth in major U.S. cities. With the recent award of a national expansion grant, ASAS will launch programs in Tampa in 2015.

Job Summary:

ASAS is currently seeking an exceptional and dynamic leader to launch the core team in Tampa as the Director of External Affairs, who will report to the ASAS State Director of Florida. The Director of External Affairs’ primary responsibilities will involve working closely with the State Director, national development and marketing team to develop and execute the ASAS Tampa fundraising plan. The Director of External Affairs will also be responsible for maintaining relationships with government, foundations, and individual partners, as well as raising awareness for ASAS.

Responsibilities:

Work with the State Director and national team to develop and implement a fundraising strategy to support the goals, objectives and activities of After-School All-Stars Tampa
Manage internal processes for tracking donors, prospects, sponsors and funding, including maintaining accurate records of relationships, deadlines, and funding requirements and ensuring compliance with applicable reporting guidelines.
Raise funds from corporations, foundations, individuals and government agencies.
Develop and manage a Tampa Board of Advisors
Work with the Board to strategize, plan, and solicit major sponsors and donors.
Prepare and distribute, as appropriate, all needed materials for soliciting sponsors.
Research and write or supervise the preparation of grant applications or sponsorship proposals.
Develop, manage and maintain relationships with media and use them to communicate the message of After-School All-Stars and promote appropriate events.
Implement social media and online communication strategy
Work with colleagues across the ASAS national network to share information, resources, and leads and collaborate on national efforts
Ensure that marketing and fund development are carried out in keeping with the organization’s values, mission, vision and plans
Travel to off-site meetings, trainings, and events
Perform other duties as assigned

Traits and Characteristics:

The individual is expected to be experienced in the field of nonprofit fund development with demonstrated success in cultivating individual donors, corporate sponsorship, and foundation grants. Team building, relationship building, and a collaborative style are important attributes. The Director of External Affairs will be an entrepreneurial, confident, professional who is accessible and flexible. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential. Experience with Florida Department of Education and a successful fundraising track record in Central Florida is preferable.

Education:

An undergraduate degree is required.

Salary and Benefits:

The salary for this position is commensurate with qualifications and experience of the individual candidate.
