Director of Individual Giving

Footsteps has an exciting opportunity for an individual who is talented and engaging to serve as the organization’s first Director of Individual Giving and to strengthen Footsteps’ rapid growth. The Director of Individual Giving will be responsible for the overall strategic direction, leadership, and management of fundraising activities focused on engaging individual donors, with a focus on major gifts. The Director of Individual Giving works closely with the Executive Director, supervises a development associate, and is a member of the senior leadership team.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Develop and implement clear short term and long term plans for individual donors that are both realistic and challenging, including the creation of a fundraising calendar and budget
Promote a culture of philanthropy throughout the organization
Grow a young and dedicated fundraising team through hands-on supervision and mentoring
Establish strong relationships with board members and donors
Develop strategies to enhance current revenue streams from annual giving, direct mail, and email
Create and manage individual stewardship program to cultivate and solicit 500+ donors and identify engagement opportunities
Cultivate and solicit a portfolio of major donors
Manage the direct mail program, including mailings to current donors and prospect mailings to potential donors
Work closely with Footsteps’ communications consultant and relevant staff to ensure seamless and coordinated communications
Work with appropriate staff and board members on donor cultivation events and large fundraising events
Ensure integrity of donor data entry system and the acknowledgment process
Staff board institutional advancement committee

Qualifications

Strong commitment to and passion for the mission of Footsteps and the ability to articulate the importance of the organization’s work to prospective and current funders
Minimum of four years of increasingly responsible development experience in a nonprofit environment
Significant experience in securing funding from individuals
Strong management skills with a record of supervising and mentoring staff
Demonstrated ability to develop, foster, and sustain relationships
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Comfort working in a growing organization, including flexibility to simultaneously perform a wide variety of tasks
Ability to work successfully with people at all levels within the organization – board members, donors, and volunteers
Experience with donor databases; Donor Perfect and Salesforce a plus
Knowledge of and experience in the organized Jewish community a plus
Ability to work some evenings and occasional weekends
