The Council for a Strong America (CSA) is the leading organization in the country mobilizing unexpected messengers – retired admirals and generals, business leaders, police chiefs, pastors, and athletes and coaches — to win investments in children to strengthen our country and help kids succeed. CSA seeks a skilled Director of Program Implementation to direct our work plans and communications with funders and raise the organization’s visibility.
About Us
The Council for a Strong America is the parent organization of five bi-partisan membership organizations of unexpected messengers, including Fight Crime: Invest in Kids, Mission: Readiness, ReadyNation, Shepherding the Next Generation, and Champions for America’s Future. CSA is headquartered in Washington, DC and has 10 state offices around the country.
The Director of Program Implementation is a member of the Senior Management Team and has the following responsibilities:
Management
Coordinate with National Directors, relevant State Directors and Policy, Research, and Communications staff to create:
policy/communications work plans for funding proposals, including exploration of new policy issues,
more specific policy/communications implementation plans for funded proposals,
reports to funders re: policy/communications accomplishments, and
an outreach plan for each major funder;
Supervise:
two Program Associates;
Track, including through utilizing the database:
the organization’s policy/communications progress & effectiveness, and
the implementation of the funder outreach plan; and
Draft, edit, and proofread correspondence with funders and others, including updates, invitations, thank you letters, and follow-up correspondence, and prepare meeting agendas and materials.
Outreach
Outreach to create organizational visibility opportunities for the President including high-level speaker series, policy workshops, conferences, strategy sessions, task forces and other initiatives, and provide substantive and logistical support for those opportunities;
Conduct background research for and draft meeting talking points, speeches, PowerPoint presentations, articles, op-eds, and social media postings for the President;
Coordinate and prep the President for media appearances and other speaking engagements;
Skills, Competencies and Knowledge Required for the Position:
Essential
Minimum of 10 years of full time, professional experience.
Understanding of policy substance and process at the federal and/or state level.
Consistently excellent written and oral communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills with an ability to juggle multiple projects at once and respond rapidly and flexibly to changing priorities.
Impeccable attention to detail.
Strong relationship-building skills with ability to interface with all levels of the organization from interns to executives, as well as external contacts, including the board, media, donors, etc.
Innovative, creative, and strategic thinker with the ability to manage projects to a successful conclusion.
Ability to work both independently and collegially as a member of a team.
Strong commitment to our mission and strategic vision.
Helpful
Background in early childhood, education, nutrition, health or budget issues.
Experience with one or more Council for a Strong America constituencies (law enforcement leaders, retired military leaders, business leaders, elite athletes, or faith leaders).
Knowledge of Salesforce and/or other database platforms.
Knowledge of Mac operating systems.
Minimum experience required:
Ten years (can include graduate study)
