ECE & ELEM Special Education Teacher – Floating – Bridges Public Charter School – Washington, DC

This is a floating position working to support students in more than one classroom.

QUALIFICATIONS – The ideal candidate will:

Be “highly qualified” in accordance with the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 and have: a BA and certification in Special Education; a Masters in Early Childhood Special Education or Special education; or a Masters and certification.
Have 1 – 2 years of successful classroom teaching experience in an urban school setting. 2 or more years of teaching experience is preferred.
Have experience with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA/VB).
Be committed to meeting the needs of a diverse student population.
Have a track record of being a team player and community minded.
Be committed to their own learning.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Planning and implementing instruction using the school’s curriculum to meet individual students’ goals and objectives on their IEP.
Providing push-in and pull-out instruction and support.
Assessing student progress regularly and using data to plan for instruction.
Collaborating with classroom teachers, ELL Teacher and special education service providers (speech, PT,OT).
Respond to students’ behavior appropriately and successfully.
Engaging parents and families in their student’s learning and acting as an ambassador for the school in the community.
Attending IEP meetings, writing IEPs, writing progress reports and tracking information using school system’s computer based IEP tracking system.
Contributing productively to the school as a whole.
Attending and participating in school events outside of regular school hours.

Our mission is to provide an exemplary educational program that includes Students with special needs. Our developmentally appropriate, Student and family-centered educational approach will nurture students to expand their developmental skills, in order to build a foundation for life-long learning. For the 2012-2013 school year we will serve students in grades preschool – kindergarten.
