Education Program Internship – Surge for Water – Chicago, IL

About Surge: Surge brings life-sustaining water and sanitation solutions to those in need and raises awareness of the global water crisis. It is a nonprofit organization registered in the United States and the United Arab Emirates with water, sanitation, and hygiene projects in nine countries and counting

Summary of position: This position provides an excellent opportunity to learn about the internal workings of a growing, volunteer run, nonprofit organization. The candidate will work on enhancing key aspects of Surge’s education and awareness programming and will work closely with the organization’s leadership.

Roles and responsibilities:

Enhance Surge’s signature Water Access, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) training program – for publication and delivery in the field
Work with graphics designer and field contacts to customize graphics and content for use in – Dominican Republic, Haiti, Philippines and Uganda
Improve written instructional materials and lesson plans
Create new activities (games and songs) for delivery in the field
Identify opportunities for Surge to increase awareness of the water and sanitation crisis in the US – both in person and virtually
Review Surge’s US and UAE based youth education program and analyze and recommend it’s use in Chicago
Other education and awareness projects as assigned
Actively promote Surge’s work – specifically via Social Media channels
Provide brief daily, weekly and milestone updates to project managers. This helps ensure that projects are on track
Present closing achievements, learning and feedback to Surge board members

Qualifications and requirements:

Self-motivated with a proactive work ethic
Great team player with desire to give back
High level of integrity
Organized with strong attention to detail
Education curriculum experience preferred
Nonprofit education or experience preferred
Ability to work with limited supervision in remote location
Flexible availability to ensure timely engagement
Chicago area location

Commitment: A minimum of 100 hours of work over 6 to 10 weeks – with a flexible weekly schedule averaging 10 -15 hours/week

Compensation: This is an unpaid internship with an opportunity to gain first hand experience of the internal workings of a growing, volunteer run, nonprofit organization
