Educational Equity Senior Policy Analyst – Advancement Project California – Los Angeles, CA

Position Summary:

The Senior Policy Analyst will report directly to the Associate Director of the Educational Equity program and generally share responsibilities with the Associate Director as needed and designated by the Associate Director. The position will require time allocation for both coordination and policy work. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Help build and maintain collaborative relationships with broad array of stakeholders including service providers, school district and elected officials, unions, and other policy, research, and community based groups
Support strategic development of policy agenda in consultation with Education team leadership through research and advocacy for Education projects on early education and P-12 education finance reform within LAUSD. Research areas include but are not limited to educational opportunities analysis for highest need communities, gap analysis in educational funding, and promising and best practices in early education for children 0-5.
Policy/research duties include but not limited to:
On-line research to support development of agendas related to ongoing policy and advocacy related to ECE and K-12 budget
Developing policy briefs, report writing and quantitative analysis
Preparing materials and reports for meetings o Participate in meetings and strategy sessions with subject matter experts, nonprofits leaders, and government officials
Other related administrative duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Strong academic background; BA or BS required; MA in public policy or law preferred o 2-4 years prior experience in civil rights and social justice, public policy and advocacy work beyond summer or term-type internships
Excellent written and oral communication skills o Experience in convening and group facilitation
Strong analytic skills and/or experience with Excel preferred o Self-starter, organized, analytical and detail oriented o Strong internet research skills
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as a team member o Ability to multi-task under deadlines and work under pressure
Ability to take on responsibilities independently with only general supervision o Very high computer proficiency o One year commitment required
