Who We Seek

We believe that all students can be successful with the right structures and supports. Our ELL Teachers work together to ensure that our students who speak another language at home are given the proper structures and support to achieve in their English language classes at school. Our ideal candidate is collaborative, organized and committed to achieving results.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Demonstrate strong pedagogy by bringing passion and depth of knowledge to working with LEP/English Language Learners. Be ready and able to instill students with the same.

Collaborate with colleagues to ensure instruction is differentiated to ensure learning for all levels of English acquisition.

Push into classroom and work with students outside of the classroom, as needed and most appropriate.

Create and implement unit and lesson plans based on student needs and BSNBCS’ mission.

Work closely with peers and administration to develop multifaceted curriculum that integrates multiple subjects and approaches to meet the individual needs of students.

Administer and grade NYSITELL and NYSESLAT, as assigned.

Take an entrepreneurial approach to your curriculum, teaching methods, and optional duties.

Maintain an awareness of school’s strategic initiatives and incorporate them into your work.

Regularly and accurately report student progress and maintain accurate and up to date records related to student achievement and performance.

Take an active role in your professional development by identifying and creating opportunities to expand your skills to meet the demands of individual student needs.

Communicate frequently with students, students’ families, colleagues and other school personnel.

Take an active role in school community outreach.

Strong understanding and ability to implement BSNBCS mission and vision.

Additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director or his/her designee.

Qualifications

New York State Teaching Certification in ESOL K-12, or other certification in ELL/ESL is required.

Minimum 2 years of classroom experience is required.

Measurable/significant track record of success as a New York City District or Charter School Teacher is preferred.

Conversational Fluency in a second language is preferred.
