Internship Overview:
Unpaid internship with flexible schedule and duration (at least 3 months is preferable). We will work with your college/school to meet credit requirements, if applicable. 10-20 hours a week focused on researching grants and gaining firsthand outdoor elementary teaching experience.
Fair Hill Nature Center’s mission is to promote responsible stewardship through an appreciation and understanding of our environment. The Nature Center works closely with Cecil County public schools to meet the Cecil County Environmental Education requirements for 2nd-5th grades and kindergarten. Students visit the Nature Center annually for an educational fieldtrip implemented by our teachers.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Shadow and assist teacher in the field until comfortable to teach independently.
Research available and applicable grants for expansion of the Nature Center’s offerings.
Time-line grant proposals.
Research, retrieve and assemble background material for grant proposals.
Assist with general Nature Center tasks when needed.
Maintain clean and healthy work environment at the Nature Center.
Must be available for occasional evening and weekend family programming.

Must Have-
Must be 18 or older.
Must have basic computer research and organizational skills.
Must be able to use own laptop with internet capabilities.
Must be available at least 1 weekday from 8:30-2:30pm for teaching.
Must pass a background check.
Must be independent and motivated.
Must be safe, responsible and mature.
Must be able to represent the mission of Fair Hill Nature Center.
Working Conditions:
Teaching will be done in the Nature Center’s classrooms and outdoors on trails in various weather conditions.
Research may be done remotely, if applicable.
The Nature Center provides a fun, supportive on-the-job learning environment for interns.
