Background

The Campaign for College Opportunity is a California non-profit organization co-founded by the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, the California Business Roundtable and the Community College League of California. The Campaign has a small professional staff and is headquartered in Los Angeles, with an office in Sacramento.

The Campaign’s mission is to ensure that the next generation of California students has the chance to attend college and succeed in order to keep our workforce and economy strong. The Campaign’s work is guided by three main priorities: to engage a broad coalition of California leaders and organizations in support of higher education access and success; to raise public awareness and share research highlighting the challenges and opportunities facing California; and to support policy solutions and reforms to our higher education system so that we can produce the 2.3 million additional college graduates our state needs.

Position Responsibilities

The Executive Assistant for the Campaign for College Opportunity will be based in Los Angeles and work under the direction of the President to provide a wide variety of skilled administrative and clerical support to the President, Vice President for External Affairs & Operations, and other senior management staff. The position requires considerable use of tact, diplomacy, discretion and judgment. The Executive Assistant shall also represent and promote the Campaign for College Opportunity in a professional and courteous manner and work collaboratively with the staff in the LA office while performing the following duties:

Provide primary support and assistance to the President, including but not limited to, scheduling meetings and preparing briefing and research memos as needed;
Oversee Los Angeles office operations including: answering phones, ordering supplies, copying, shipping, working with vendors, and troubleshooting office equipment and other duties as assigned;
Lead event planning and logistics;
Manage travel arrangements for the President, Vice President of External Affairs and Operations, and Board of Directors;
Serve as primary contact and coordinator for the Board of Directors, including preparing all logistics for quarterly Board meetings and committee meetings;
Update and maintain FileMaker database of key contacts;
Assist in other administrative and program areas as needed.

Ability to balance multiple projects at once, excellent time management skills, and strong attention to detail;
Professionalism and ability to engage with diverse interest groups and individuals;
Strong computer and communication skills (both written and verbal);
Knowledge and experience working with databases;
Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel;
Ability to work independently and in a team environment;
Ability to multi-task and flow between projects seamlessly;
Comfort working in a quickly and often changing work environment;
Self-starter, willingness to take the initiative, ask questions, learn and grow in the position;
Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends when needed and be available for minimal travel to attend board meetings and other important events;
Minimum of 3 years of administrative experience; preferably as an executive assistant to a Director or in a legislative office;
High School graduate with some College experience; Associate of Art degree preferred, but college can be substituted for experience;
Ability to speak a second language would be a plus, but not required.
