Classification: Full-time, non-exempt
Salary Range: $65,000-75,000, DOE, with full benefits
Start Date: As soon as possible
Organizational Summary: Brothers on the Rise (BOTR) empowers boys and young men of color (BYMOC) to achieve individual success, develop healthy relationships and contribute to a more just and equitable society. Together with parents, teachers and providers, we help develop boys into responsible, peaceful, caring and productive young men. This is accomplished through gender-responsive, culturally affirming direct services as well as through training and technical assistance for schools and agencies to more effectively and equitably serve this population.
BOTR is currently a fiscally sponsored project of the nonprofit organization, San Francisco Study Center, but has incorporated with the state and received its 501(c)(3) tax exempt status from the IRS. The anticipated date of separation from the fiscal sponsor is July 1, 2016, at which point BOTR will be a fully independent 501(c)(3). Our administrative office is in Fruitvale within the Spanish Speaking Citizen’s Foundation and our youth programs take place at Oakland public schools and parks sites. We also provide training and technical assistance to schools, nonprofits and public sector agencies throughout the Bay Area, and engage in research and writing that affects the field on a broader scale.
Position Summary: The Executive Director (E.D.) reports to the Board of Directors, and is responsible for the consistent achievement of BOTR’s mission and financial objectives. The E.D. will bring strong skills and experience in nonprofit administration, as well as a great passion for empowerment work with urban youth and families, and particularly with BYMOC. The E.D. ideally brings a strong base of knowledge in the communities served by BOTR, which include Oakland, the East Bay, and the Bay Area at large. This includes a grounding in both the issues facing our clients – youth, families, nonprofits, as well as public schools and agencies – and strong connections with other organizations and funders active in this sector of health, human service and social change work.
