Overview
The Executive Director is charged with the oversight of all areas of Mill Falls’ operation to ensure that the mission and charter of this public Montessori school are fully supported and achieved. The ideal candidate will have proven leadership, fund development and management experience, and a passion for our innovative education model.
Reporting to the Board of Trustees, the Executive Director will work with the Educational Program Director to establish priorities, recommend policies and strategic vision based on the School’s mission and goals as well as student and staff needs. The Executive Director has oversight responsibilities of all staff with the Educational Program Director fulfilling all clinical supervision of the educational staff.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
The Executive Director is responsible for actively engaging a diverse constituency (faculty and staff, students and parents, volunteers, board members, partnering organizations, and financial supporters) within and outside of the School community to fulfill the mission of the organization.
Communications & Public Presence: Serve as theorganization’s lead spokesperson; articulate and advocate the School’s mission and goals to the parent community as well as to donors, partners and other resources including prospective volunteers and funders; respond to requests for speaking engagements including testimony at legislative hearings; represent MFCS at Department of Education, Charter Association, and other meetings.
Fund Development: Expand revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing programs and growth opportunities.Coordinate activities with the Mill Falls Charter School Foundation, the School’s Board of Trustees, and others within and beyond the school community.
Operations & Systems Management: Ensure ongoing programmatic excellence consistent with fiduciary and licensing obligations. Manage and oversee all School operating systems, including but not limited to: fiscal/budgetary/accounting; reporting, compliance and accountability; facility and safety management; human resources; communications, and the development of additional systems as needed. The ED directly supervises the administrative support staff, currently an office manager and bookkeeper.
Board Development & Support: Cultivate a strong relationship with the Board of Trustees in areas of policy, accountability, financial and programmatic sustainability, strategic planning and charter renewal, and serve on related Board committees. Drive collaboration between the Board of Trustees, the Foundation Board and the Staff; help identify potential trustees and committee members.
The Organization
Mill Falls Charter School provides a Montessori education in a diverse public school setting where children of all abilities can progress toward independence, self-motivation and self-confidence as they strive to become well-rounded learners. Located in Manchester, New Hampshire, the School was launched in 2012 and is the first public Montessori Charter School in the state. In the 2015/16 school year, our K-6 Elementary Program will serve 168 children.
Qualifications & Requirements
This position calls for an experienced and dynamic individual with a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from a 4 year college or university, and a minimum of five years’ of professional work experience – with at least 3 years’ experience leading, building and/or sustaining one or more organization(s).
This position requires proven leadership, fund development and management experience partnered with exceptional communication and collaboration skills. Key qualifications include:

Proven track record as a strategic thinker, planner and leader.
Ability to engage, motivate and support a variety of constituents.
Fiscal management experience including developing and overseeing budgets and contracts.
Diverse fundraising experience including grant-writing and donor cultivation and stewardship.
Ability to manage for short-, mid- and long-term results.
Excellent verbal, written, and public speaking communication skills.
Excellence in organizational management with the ability to support our high-performing education team.
Past experience and success working with a Board of Trustees.
Intermediate ability in Microsoft Office programs and general ease with computer technology.
