JOB SUMMARY:
Under the general direction and guidance of the Director, Shared Services, the Grant Writer will generate revenue for programs/initiatives related to the United Way of Greater Los Angeles’ mission of Creating Pathways out of Poverty (CPOP). This position supports the United Way’s commitment to excellent customer service by engaging new partners, strengthening relationships, and facilitating communication with community partners and key stakeholders. This will be accomplished by: a) successful researching of corporate and foundation grant programs, b) relationship building with potential funders, c) and writing and submission of well-written funding applications and proposals. This position will also coordinate and lead the activities of the grant writing process from research to reporting for the entire organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Oversee master plan to ensure grant proposals are developed in accordance with corporate deadlines for requests.
Ensure annual meetings take place with key Community Impact staff to review impact work with corporate grant representatives.
Maintain calendar to ensure timely submission of letters of inquiry, proposal deadlines, and reports.
Ensure timely “Thank You” campaign to key corporate grant audience.
Oversee and deliver all results and other work in accordance with grant requirements.
Work with Finance to monitor grants in the development of grant applications and budgets.
Assemble and submit grant requests, including all relevant letters, proposals, budgets, and presentations.
Establish and maintain personal contact and relationships with foundation contacts and program officers.
Conduct prospect research.
Document activity within computer database and filing systems, using protocols established by pledge processing.
Participate in donor recognition and donor engagement events, as needed.
Provide United Way information to the public and manage special projects as assigned.
Communicate and integrate with internal departments and operations to strengthen company relationships and develop greater customer service.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must possess excellent written, analytical, research, and oral communication skills.
Must have experience completing successful grant and foundation applications, leading to monetary awards.
Must have strong expertise navigating grant systems (such as, Raisers Edge and Foundation Center), online databases, and other sources to locate biographical, financial and philanthropic information.
Must be able to generate innovative grant applications that synthesize information and communicate in a compelling and succinct manner.
Must have a solid understanding of budgets as they relate to proposals and grants.
Must possess comprehensive understanding of foundations, corporate, and government grant application processes.
Must be extremely well organized, able to set clear priorities, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience strongly preferred. Must have solid track record of writing and winning grant awards from foundations, businesses, and government at the six-figure level or greater.
