A Brief History:
Gasol Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity dedicated to empowering young people to live healthier lives. Founded in 2013 by Marc and Pau Gasol, Gasol Foundation envisions a world where all children will enter adulthood physically, emotionally, and mentally equipped to live successful, healthy and productive lives.
Marc and Pau Gasol are brothers, Olympians and All-Star NBA athletes committed to making a difference. Originally from Spain, they have garnered the national and international spotlight for both their academic prowess and dedication to philanthropy.
From a very young age, Marc and Pau have shared a passion for children’s health. Their mother was a doctor and their father a hospital administrator who practiced at home what they preached at work: healthy kids leads to happy families, who then, together, contribute to successful communities. Marc and Pau had regular access to and were educated on the importance of physical activity, health food and emotional security. Some of their fondest family memories were moments spent together actively living a healthy lifestyle. They strive now, as part of their own foundation’s work, to do everything they can to ensure that same level of access and enjoyment for today’s global youth.
The Challenge:
Children, today, struggle to maintain a consistently healthy lifestyle due to a dangerous and pronounced culture shift in diet, physical activity, and level of environmental and emotional stress. Affecting countries both rich and poor, this shift has become one of the most serious global public health challenges of the 21st century.
If we don’t act soon to reverse this trend, we’re in danger of raising the first generation of children who many live sicker and die younger than the generation before them.
With a host of serious illnesses including cardiovascular disease, stroke, asthma, certain types of cancer, and mood disorders influenced by diet, activity, and level of stress – it is imperative that communities work together to intervene early to promote healthy habits amongst today’s youth. By doing do, we will make our world healthier and stronger, ease the financial strain on our health care system, and save lives.

In Search Of:
Gasol Foundation is in search of a Health & Wellness Educator to join our Vida Health & Wellness team in Los Angeles!
Gasol Foundation is seeking one (1) highly motivated educator/teacher to manage and administer the health, wellness, and nutrition-related components of the Vida Health & Wellness program currently operating three Saturdays/month in partnership with the Partnership for Los Angeles Schools. This is a great opportunity for someone with a knowledge of and passion for positive & healthy change, whole wellness, nutrition, and the nonprofit sector.
Applicants Should Be:
•Qualified to teach health, wellness, and nutrition to children ages 6-12 years of age and be interested in the nonprofit health & wellness outreach sector
•Willing to work 30 hours per month (of which THREE 5-hr Saturdays per month are mandatory, the remaining 15 hours per month are flexible in schedule) and attend special events
•Reliable, organized, and have access to their own transportation
•Willing and able to thrive in a team-oriented, passionate work environment
•Knowledgeable of the ways in which access to health, wellness, sport, and nutrition education can empower underserved youth and communities
Responsibilities:
•Work closely with the foundation’s U.S. Director to create lesson plans focused on youth health, wellness, and nutrition education
•Coordinate and lead site-specific activities with diverse populations of children and their families
•Identify monthly health, wellness, and nutrition coursework needs, resources, and to do’s and communicate these details to the U.S. Director through in-person meetings, email, phone, and skype.
•Work with the Evaluation Manager to collect data and feedback.
•Explore and facilitate health, wellness, and nutrition-related partnerships as needed
Required Qualifications:
•Working professional with a demonstrated background in health, wellness, and nutrition
•Software proficiency including Microsoft Word/Pages, PowerPoint/Keynote, and Excel/Numbers
•Adept at learning to use new software; very comfortable with technology
•Demonstrated experience conducting internet research
•Demonstrated experience conducting business in person, in front of a group of people, and by phone
•Excellent verbal and written communication skills
•Superb attention to detail
•Strong time management ability
•Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple detail-oriented projects
•Self-starter who can work with minimal supervision and be comfortable in a dynamic and busy nonprofit environment while also possessing the ability to work as part of a team
•Ability to work with diverse groups, including community-based organizations, guest speakers, and young children and parents
•Comfortable meeting deadlines in a fast-paced setting
•Strong working knowledge of social media platforms: Facebook, Twitter, and IG
•Professional and positive demeanor
•Strong communication skills, including public speaking skills
•All applicants must be at least 21 years or older and must pass a background check prior to beginning the teaching position
•Minimum Bachelor degree in related field
•Preferred Bilingual (Spanish and English is a plus)
•Preferred teaching experience working with children in an educational setting
•Preferred volunteer coordination and management skills
Compensation:
Commensurate upon experience.
