Williamsburg Charter High School is looking for a Principal for the 2016-2017 school year.

The Principal of Williamsburg Charter High School reports to the Board of Trustees. This position is a full-year position and aims to begin during the summer of 2016.

Williamsburg Charter High School (WCHS) is a high performing, public charter high school located in Brooklyn, New York. WCHS opened in August 2004 as the first Chancellor-authorized charter high school in the City of New York. Over the course of the last two years, WCHS has received two charter renewals and has grown to serve over 900 students ranging from ninth to twelfth grades.

The Williamsburg Charter High School unites youth, families, staff, teachers and the community in providing young people with the tools necessary to make sense of the world and in preparing them in their journey to become skilled workers in and literate citizens of the world community.

Young people accomplish this through their participation in a liberal arts education that includes language, literature, writing, science, history, mathematics, the arts, technology and explorations in disciplines designed to teach fairness, justice, respect and compassion for themselves and others as well as the skills of critical thinking, communication and research.

The School takes seriously its relationship with its community. In addition to striving for academic excellence, the school curriculum and day focus on the social-emotional health of every child and on differentiating instruction to reach all types of learners.

The Principal will join an administrative team that includes an Assistant Principal of Instruction and an Assistant Principal of Student Support Services. WCHS has over 45 staff members and 75 teachers. WCHS has departments of English, Math, Science, Social Studies Latin, Special Education, Physical Education, CTE, Performing Arts, and Visual Arts, which are led by teachers. In addition WCHS has three social workers, four guidance counselors, four grade leaders and five members in its student life department in addition to a full administrative support. WCHS values the professional growth and health of its teachers and staff.

WCHS is seeking candidates who have experience in education, leadership and management and are effective in carrying out a shared vision. WCHS prefers candidates with expertise in progressive curriculum development and a commitment to improving the quality of urban education, specifically for scholars who have been traditionally underserved.

Candidates with strong teaching experience in general education and special education populations are preferred. Candidates must have a leadership degree associated with education such as a building leader certification or equivalency. In addition the Board will strongly consider individuals with JD and MBA degrees.
