Jewish Cultural School Sunday School Teacher – Machar, The Washington Congregation for Secular Humanistic Judaism

MACHAR, the Washington Congregation for Secular Humanistic Judaism is hiring Sunday school teachers for its Jewish Cultural School (JCS) for the 2015-2016 academic year.

This is a two-hour teaching commitment (from 9:45 to 11:45 a.m.) on the remaining 13 scheduled Sunday mornings from October to May. Teachers are responsible for following the curriculum for each grade and updating parents by email after each session. Positions are available both for grade level teachers and for arts enrichment teachers (who can teach music, art, and/or drama).

Qualifications for JCS teachers: teaching experience; comfort with secular humanistic/cultural approach to Jewish studies; and ability to work with children. All teachers are expected to follow the appropriate grade-level curriculum and update parents by email following each session.

Qualifications for arts enrichment teachers (music, art, or drama):We need teachers who can work with all grades on select Sunday mornings. The music teachershould have a musical background in guitar; knowledge of Jewish songs typical of Jewish camps or Sunday schools; and the ability to lead children and adults in singing. The art teachershould have creative ideas about crafts and art projects for children of all ages; projects should center around Jewish holidays or other aspects of Jewish culture and/or the JCS curriculum. Thedrama teachershould be capable of developing and directing skits and plays that complement the JCS curriculum and challenge students of all ages to apply their Jewish learning.
