Learning Director – buildOn – Stamford, CT

Title: Learning Director

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Hours: Full Time/Exempt

Location: Stamford/CT (can commute from NYC)

Vision:

Our new Learning Director will have the opportunity to work directly with buildOn’s CEO and partner with the executive leadership team to develop a best-in-class learning platform, establishing the organization as the foremost in talent and leadership development. Through these efforts the Learning Director will help to improve performance, and strengthen direction, alignment and commitment around our mission; uniting the organization as ONE buildOn.

Roles and Responsibilities:

The LD will lead the effort to create quarterly full-day, in-person, learning sessions for all buildOn staff in every U.S. region and partner country. They will work closely with the CEO and buildOn Leadership Team to develop learning objectives, and then curriculum around these objectives. Coursework will focus on functional, individual and organizational leadership. We will utilize online learning between quarterly sessions. The LD will also identify external thought leaders and learning opportunities that will contribute to our learning platform.

The LD will also work closely with the CEO to develop an elite two-year Social Enterprise Leadership Program with rotations in U.S. Programs, International Programs, Development, Marketing, and Finance/Operations. Recruiting will be competitive and coursework for this program will be rigorous – utilizing both online and in-person quarterly learning sessions. The LD will also be responsible for establishing and supervising mentorships between participants and high-performing veteran staff members from each department.

The LD will work with Leadership Team members to establish an onboarding “boot-camp” platform and curriculum for each department. These six (or so) week boot-camps will pair new employees with high performing veteran leaders within their departments. These leaders will deliver weekly learning around functional skills.

The LD will create coursework and curriculum for all one-year interns from each department. This will be integrated into the greater buildOn learning platform. The LD will also establish a platform for mentor relationships between interns and high performing veterans from their respective departments.

Qualifications:

Bachelors or Masters in Psychology or related field.
3-5 years of experience in an organizational learning environment.
Expertise in the development of complex, customized leadership development solutions for individual leaders as well as system-level change initiatives.

Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Exceptional knowledge of relevant content areas, including the fields of management/leadership, organizational development, talent management, adult learning theory, and human resource development.
Demonstrated ability to develop content, curriculum and coursework in the field of social enterprise, management, leadership, organizational development and talent management.
Strong facilitation and program delivery skills.
Demonstrated ability to work with and influence all members of the buildOn team- from service-learning program coordinators to the CEO and senior leadership team. Must be able to display a strong presence in the classroom.
Flexible, adaptable with internal clients, colleagues and organization needs.
Exceptional organizational and planning skills.
Significant experience using technology options for facilitating learning – i.e. webinars, podcasts, online simulations, etc.
Functional knowledge or strong desire to become proficient in nonprofit fundraising, marketing, finance/operations, service learning, and international development, to develop Learning in those areas.
Flexibility to travel up to 25%.
Experience working with multi-cultural and international teams is strongly preferred.
