We are seeking a teacher for our middle school Transdisciplinary Program (TDP). TDP is a unique course in which students learn all the core skills and most of the core content knowledge required for graduation. It is a project-based class that focuses on a theme or problem around which material and skills from the major disciplinary areas of Literature, Social Science, Natural Science, and Mathematics are integrated.
The teacher hired will also be responsible for teaching at least one academic elective in an area of personal interest and expertise AND will serve as a mentor to a group of students.
The ideal candidate for the position will:
Have strong writing and numeracy skills.
Be comfortable teaching across disciplines.
Be willing and able to quickly learn new content.
Be able to teach and evaluate writing and oral presentations.
Have experience teaching in project-based, inquiry, or design thinking learning environments OR have knowledge and interest in this type of instruction.
Be willing to customize for the needs of individual students.
Have knowledge of engineering, environmental science, urban planning, geography, sociology and/or statistics.
Be comfortable with building models by hand and on the computer.
