DC International School is an innovative middle/high school created by five elementary language immersion public charter schools in DC to create a pathway through secondary school for their students and families. DCI will enable students to continue their language immersion in French, Spanish, and Mandarin while participating in inquiry-based education through the International Baccalaureate Middle and Diploma Years Programmes. We will have grades 6 through 9 (MYP 1, 2, 3 and 4) for the 2016-2017 school year. We will grow into a 6-12 middle and high school.

Principal Position Overview

We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled education leader to join our leadership team at DC International School. As we expand into High School, we seek a MS or HS principal who is passionate about urban education, the International Baccalaureate MYP and DP Programmes, environmental stewardship, social justice, language immersion education, and most important, middle and high school students.

DCI will serve approximately 200 students in grades 6 and 7 in its opening year, growing to approximately 1200 students in grades 6-12. Our first class of seniors will graduate in 2020.

DCI is the creation of a consortium of five language-immersion public charter schools in the District of Columbia in order to provide a continued language immersion pathway for our students through middle and high school. The IB MYP and DP Programmes are being implemented to continue our collective inquiry-based approaches to learning, our focus on internationalism and language, social justice, and environmental stewardship. We seek a principal who embraces these values and who is excited about the potential inherent in a new school.

Instructional Accountability

Inspire and enable teachers to achieve maximum student learning.
Articulate a clear instructional vision with a school-wide focus on teaching and learning that is evidence-based, data-driven, standards-aligned and rooted in a belief that all students can achieve at high levels.
Lead an IB MYP and DP school to World School accreditation based on the most recent understanding about learning, including processes which address developing, implementing and monitoring curriculum and learner progress.
Be a ‘leader of learning’ who fosters a vision and practical culture of maximum learning and development of potential for the full range of diverse learners.
Develop and maintaining a purposeful school culture that supports a rich, safe and effective learning environment
Demonstrate knowledge of how to use instruction to reach student achievement goals.
Identify and implement effective, evidence-based instructional practices and provide feedback, coaching and professional development to teachers to improve the quality of instruction throughout the school.
Oversee a continuous evaluation program for faculty
Ensure that our 1:1 technology culture is implemented effectively for students

Qualifications:

Candidates should demonstrate the following professional qualifications:

A Master’s or other advanced degree in Education Leadership or related field
Experience in urban education/diverse environments
At least 3 years teaching experience, preferably at the secondary level
Experience/training in the International Baccalaureate curriculum framework
Experience in language immersion environment: Bilingualism strongly preferred
Experience leading and managing teachers
Knowledge of best practices for students who receive special education or ELL
Understanding of the public charter school landscape in DC
Strong collaboration and communication skills, both orally and in writing
