School Overview
Endeavor College Prep is a kindergarten through eighth grade charter school serving children from the historically underserved neighborhoods of Boyle Heights, Lincoln Heights, and surrounding eastside communities. Our student population is 97% Latino, 95% free/reduced lunch, and among the highest performing in the state. We earned a 2013 API score of 870, are ranked 10 out of 10 for similar schools, became a California Distinguished School in 2012, and were ranked #8 in USC’s annual list of top charter schools in the state.

Our team is made up of a highly collaborative group of teachers and staff who share a passion for closing the achievement gap. We use a co-teaching structure in elementary grades modeled after the successful Uncommon Schools and Achievement First schools on the east coast. We have high expectations for academics and discipline, and simultaneously value joy in the classroom, making learning fun for our scholars and teachers.

Position Summary

Teachers in grade K-6 at Endeavor College Prep share responsibility of a class of 36 students with a partner teacher and are part of a four-teacher team for collaboratively planning lessons for both classes.

A teacher’s primary duties include:

Participating in a collaborative curriculum development process
Implementing curricula and activities to meet academic standards
Collaboratively designing and implementing assessments that measure progress towards academic standards
Using assessment data to refine curricula and inform instructional practices
Reinforcing school-wide rules and expectations in classrooms and elsewhere on campus
Being accountable for students’ mastery of academic standards
Producing weekly lesson plans to share with administrators and parents
Communicating frequently with parents, including bi-weekly progress reports
Participating actively in grade-level meetings, faculty meetings, and other meetings
Participating in staff development, including three weeks of orientation and training every summer
Arriving at school by 7:15 a.m. and remaining on campus until 4:15 p.m. (slightly staggered by campus)
Meeting with co-teachers on a regular basis to help each other improve as teachers
Completing other tasks as directed by the Co-Director or Campus Director

Qualifications

Philosophical alignment with the college preparatory mission of the school
A “whatever it takes” attitude
Valid California Clear Multiple Subject Teaching Credential or Intern Credential through a program recognized by the CA Commission on Teacher Credentialing, including authorization for instructing English Language Learners
Highly Qualified under terms of NCLB
Commitment to continuous professional development
High behavioral expectations and strong classroom management skills
The desire to work as part of a team
Experience teaching in an urban setting with proven academic results (preferred)
Facility with the Spanish language (preferred)
