Job Description: The Nature Specialist is a full-time position reporting to the Education Manager, Public Programs. Under general supervision, this position’s main responsibilities will be developing and implementing nature education programs for the museum, including the supervision and care of the museum’s live animal collection. To achieve this, the Nature Specialist will be working both independently and as part of an Education & Exhibits team.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and implement the museum’s nature and animal education programs
Act as the principal facilitator of nature and animal education programs
Oversee live animal collection and all animal husbandry (birds, insects, reptiles, mammals)
Train staff on all nature and animal program content and teaching methodology
Oversee and maintain the Nature Exchange exhibit and act as lead facilitator of exhibit
Facilitate school, camp, outreach and public education programs
Assist with the development of camp, field trip, outreach and workshop curriculum
Plan and coordinate special events
Maintain program supply inventory and budget
Contribute to website and museum media promotion of nature and animal content
Develop and maintain partnerships with nature organizations
Additional job duties as assigned

Requirements and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in a nature related field required (environmental science, zoology, anthropology, museum studies, etc.)
Knowledge of nature education, animal husbandry, informal education or related field
Experience working with young children
Demonstrated work history in nature and museum education
Previous experience in leadership roles
Flexible schedule required, including some nights, weekends and some split shifts
Must be able to work a Tuesday through Saturday schedule
Proficiency using email, Internet, Windows, Microsoft Office
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in the English language
Motivated, positive, self-starter
Energetic, creative individual with excellent organizational skills.
Ability to work well as part of a team
