Background: Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) is an innovative partnership among the Microsoft Corporation, Angelina Jolie and other interested philanthropists, law firms and corporate supporters. KIND is dedicated to providing both pro bono representation and positive systemic changes in law and policy to benefit unaccompanied immigrant and refugee children. Launched in fall 2008, KIND is headquartered in Washington, D.C. and has field offices across the U.S.
Responsibilities: KIND’s Pro Bono Recruitment and Training Manager will report to KIND’s Vice President for Legal Service and support KIND’s national recruitment and training efforts. The position is based out of the Washington DC office. Some travel to field offices may be required. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
1) Assist in the research and development of a targeted annual recruitment plan for pro bono attorneys from national law firms, corporations and provide support in the implementation of this plan in partnership with other members of the legal services team;
2) Schedule and prepare for meetings and recruitment events with potential pro bono attorneys and partners; attend these events with members of the senior legal services team as needed;
3) Support KIND’s field staff with efforts to provide high quality training to its volunteer attorneys by helping with logistics in scheduling KIND’s comprehensive training program;
4) Provide administrative support to KIND’s Vice President for Legal Services related to the implementation of legal services in all field offices, nationally;
5) Work in partnership with KIND’s communications team to develop collateral materials for partnership development, recruitment and training needs;
6) Maintain KIND’s list of partnerships and provide reports to support the work of the organization to funders or other members of KIND’s team.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required;
3-5 years’ experience in a legal setting;
Strong interpersonal skills;
Demonstrated experience with corporate law firm culture;
Excellent Written and oral communication skills, as well as strong presentation skills;
Excellent organizational skills.
