ORGANIZATIONAL DESCRIPTION

Founded in 1969, Enterprise for High School Students engages and empowers San Francisco Bay Area high school students to discover career opportunities and cultivates their individual interests through training, guidance, and employment experiences in a diverse and supportive learning environment. EHSS programs provide students with the ability and opportunity to find and retain jobs, explore career opportunities through internships and job shadowing, get career and college counseling, and develop life skills crucial for their transition from high school to adult life. EHSS combines job-readiness training with experiential learning and provides youth with a unique opportunity to gain work experience through one of San Francisco’s largest job banks focused exclusively on high school students.

POSITION SUMMARY

Enterprise for High School Students seeks a part-time (20 hours per week) Program Assistant from January to August 2016 to help manage the Career Exploration Program (CEP) in collaboration with the Career & College Program Manager, including recruitment and enrollment, data entry, program participant tracking, co-facilitation, and event planning. Strong writers with a keen interest in youth development/empowerment and program facilitation, community development, nonprofit management, and job-readiness will be best positioned to support a multilayered program and gain hands-on experience working with high school youth from the San Francisco Bay Area.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Assist with CEP intern enrollment, including leading makeup information sessions, reviewing and assessing applications, conducting interviews, scanning documents, and recommending participants and preliminary matches
Co-facilitate CEP pre-internship workshops and workshops held during the program
Track submitted assignments, timesheets, and attendance
Coordinate and participate in youth check-ins and transitional meetings, including reviewing final presentations and offering constructive feedback
Assist in planning and executing two events, CEP Orientation and the Final Celebration, including creating promotional material, setting up events, reviewing youth speakers’ presentations, etc.
Document processes for monthly activities related to CEP and assist in developing a CEP Instructional Guide

QUALIFICATIONS

Available from February to August 2016
Strong commitment to the mission of Enterprise for High School Students
Knowledge of youth development principles
Some college preferred
Experience working with youth
Experience working in an office setting
Strong writing and editing skills
Strong interpersonal skills and experience working with diverse groups
Self-motivated, organized, and detail-oriented
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop and/or Adobe Illustrator, and Google Docs preferred
Facilitation/training experience a plus
Systems thinker and technologically savvy
Ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects
Team player with a positive attitude and entrepreneurial spirit
Available for evening workshops and one Saturday event
