Community Counseling and Mediation (CCM) is seeking a qualified candidate for the role of Program Coordinator for our S.I.M.B.A (Safe In My Brothers Arms) Program. S.I.M.B.A. is an all male program that targets high school male students who meet the legal definition of homeless. This program provides educational support and various activities that result in improved socio-emotional performance. This is a part-time position with varied hours. Candidate should expect between 25-30 + hours per week.
Responsibilities: Candidate will target and recruit students living in the shelters located in our catchment areas in Brooklyn. Candidate will also be responsible for retention practices designed to encourage regular program attendance for our participants. Candidate will also reach out to parents to solidify program enrollment and collect consent forms throughout year for various activities. Candidate will participate in school visits for students designed to inform school staff of the student’s involvement, monitor progress, identify school based resources and collaborate with the school to increase the likelihood of academic success for our students. The candidate will also oversee the students arrival to the after school activities; ensure attendance is taken; create system to distribute snacks and supplies and coordinate metro card distribution. Candidate is also expected to facilitate group and activities that foster leadership development for the students (service learning, student-led activities). Candidate will also serve as chaperone for college trips and multi-day excursions as well.
Qualifications: Candidate should have a strong commitment and desire to work with high school males. Candidate should have an understanding of current issues impacting adolescent males. Must be willing to work early evenings (after school), days (school visits) and Saturdays.
Experience: Must have a minimum of 3 years providing direct services to adolescent males. Must have group facilitation experience. Strong consideration given to candidate that can facilitate student based media groups ending in various projects. Should have a Bachelors degree but preferably a Masters in the Human Service concentration. Will consider candidates with strong life experiences.
