Program Coordinator – FEEST – Seattle, WA

FEEST is the Food Empowerment Education and Sustainability Team. It is a youth-driven improvisational dinner program committed to engaging young people in issues of civic and social justice, food security, cultural expression, systems change and community development. Currently, FEEST takes place at two high schools in the White Center/Delridge neighborhoods. Every week, FEEST gathers youth to cook an improvised dinner using a table full of fresh vegetables from local markets and farmers. Everyone in the room collaborates in the design of the menu and co-creates dishes in an engaging, non-hierarchal, youth led setting. Each year, FEEST hires youth interns to lead and promote the weekly dinners and train them as community advocates. This year, FEEST interns will be launching a youth-led counter marketing campaign to promote healthy foods in their neighborhoods.

FEEST acknowledges youth, people of color, immigrants and refugees as important and powerful forces in the food justice movement. In alignment with this belief, it “sets the table” for youth to transform the health and equity of their communities by gathering around food and working towards system changes. FEEST is a proven model for authentically engaging young people in underserved communities around the issues of community health and equity.

We are currently seeking a program coordinator for this beloved organization. It is time for FEEST to expand and move into its next iteration, empowering more youth to engage in systems change they create themselves.

Desired Qualifications: We want it all. We want a charismatic and artful facilitator who can do the job with excellence, engage communities with integrity and authentically partner with youth. We also want someone energetic, optimistic and bursting with enthusiasm and laughter. We don’t think it’s too much to ask.

However, if we must name a few prioritized qualifications, we’d like to ensure the program coordinator of FEEST has style, skills and experience working with the values we cherish most. An ideal candidate will demonstrate an ongoing commitment to and experience in: 1. Civic and social justice 2. Food justice, equity and access 3. Youth leadership development and empowerment 4. Experience with popular education, Theater of the Oppressed or Creative Facilitation 5. Consistent and transparent communication 6. Community driven policy and systems change 7. Formal education and training in a related field, or equivalent experience 8. Working with racially and economically diverse individuals and communities, including working class, immigrant/refugees, communities of color, and LGBTQ populations 9. Experience with using social media as a tool for storytelling and/or systems change 10. Familiarity with White Center/Delridge communities a plus

Primary Job Responsibilities: There’s lots of work to do in a growing organization. As a result, everyone pitches in regularly to get things done. While lots of work is a collaborative effort, there are distinct job responsibilities specific to the role of Program Coordinator. They include and are not limited to: 1. Co-Develop internship educational arc: containing social justice curriculum, program goals, outcomes and activities (field trips, trainings, workshops, etc.) 2. Co-Lead internship activities: facilitate weekly meetings, dinners, summer camp, create dinner activities with interns, manage community projects, intern recruitment, hiring and leadership development, and prepare interns for public speaking and advocacy 3. Maintain systems for communication with interns and track intern progress – attendance, adequate level of participation, blogs, assignments, calendar 4. Create reports, track yearly activities, track general program attendance and complete all necessary administrative duties 5. Manage adult kitchen volunteers — submit background checks, recruitment, tracking, training, team building 6. Manage FEEST media with interns: Instagram, Facebook, twitter, digital stories
