Program Director – Ala Costa Centers – Berkeley, CA

After School Program Director – Full Time (40 hours / full benefits)

SUMMARY

Ala Costa provides services to children and adults with developmental disabilities. We have operated an after school center located in Berkeley since 1972. In 2003, we opened a second after school center located in Oakland. In 2007, we opened the Weekend Respite Program. In 2009, we opened the Adult Transition program. In addition to providing these direct services, we provide support to families through advocacy, social activities and education.

The After School Program Director oversees the after school program at a specific site. This position works closely with the Executive Director to develop a plan for program success and growth and provide guidance to other management team members. The Program Director has all the responsibilities of the site supervisor. In addition s/he assumes responsibility for some agency related duties. S/he reports directly to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities to Staff:

Provide supervision to classroom teachers
Responsible for scheduling staff and volunteers
Recruit, hire, train, schedule, and evaluate staff and volunteers
Assist teachers in design of curriculum that provides maximum level of community integration and independence
Contribute to semiannual student goal setting process by collaborating with parents, classroom teachers, and program specialists to develop age appropriate, functional goals, and objectives
Facilitate both weekly faculty and monthly all- staff meetings
Provide in-service to staff on key strategies and best practices
Ensure licensing requirements/checks are kept up on a daily basis
Substitute for Teacher when staffing is needed to meet ratios
Teacher of record when teacher is absent
Provides New Hire Orientations and on-going training
In coordination with Executive Director, responsible for Employee Corrective Action Notices and termination
Mediation between staff members

Responsibilities to Parents

Consult with parents, extended families, and other service providers
Oversees the completion of program calendars
Effectively communication with parents / care-providers on a regular basis
Coordinates the Quarterly Parent Leadership Committee Meetings
Creating and sending out flyers and notices to parents

Responsibilities to Students

Oversee intake and assessment of new students
Oversees the completion of written reports ISP (Individual Service Plans) and child assessments
Develop vision for continued program growth including the development of integration programs
Develop program policiesand assures that policies are being followed
Ensure there are appropriate ratios in classroom at all times as defined by CCL guidelines
Attend I.E.P meetings when requested
Responsible for Transportation arrangements to and from the program
Be a back up with medication dispensary to children and adults

Responsibilities to Center

Oversee facilities upkeep and maintenance
Purchase supplies for center / program
Participate in policy planning within the center and in the community
Responsible for the tracking of clients’ available Purchase of Service hours and termination dates
Oversight of the sign in out sheets for CCL and RCEB Billing purposes
Responsible for completion of the monthly Variance reports
Assist with the development and the oversight of the program budget
Assures all staff/student files are complete and up to date
Responsible for the Petty Cash for office and Classrooms
Oversee and Coordinate Janitorial duties and responsibilities
Maintains Emergency preparedness plans and implements monthly emergency drills
Reviewing/revising all written documentations from other staff
Timesheet verification for staff work hours and non-work hours
Responsible for vehicle inspection / safety and driving
Maintaining/Improving quality of program

Responsibilities to Community

Cultivate and maintain relationship with local colleges and high schools to facilitate student volunteers
Collaborating with outside organizations and represent Ala Costa professionally

Responsibilities to the Organization

Assure that all necessary documentation is in place for RCEB billing (accurate up to date POS)
Perform internal audits to assure accurate documentation of full compliance of all contracts
Manage database records for current and past students and employees
Manage facilities and supplies spending in consultation with Executive Director
Provide guidance and training to faculty and direct line staff
Participate in web-site updates and development
Complete monthly newsletter for parents and staff
Negotiate appropriate transportation solutions with school districts and other transportation companies
Represent agency to community supporters and potential donors.
Communicates with the Executive Director and management team on a regular basis.
Participate in small scale fundraising activities
Assist with Ala Costa’s large fundraising events
Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

Qualifications:

Masters degree, professional credential, or license in a related field (must have at least 12 units ECE/child development and 6 units in administration/supervision of ECE/CD programs)
Related Fields: Psychology, Social Work, Special Education, Physical Education, Recreation Therapy, Vocational Education, Counseling, Early Childhood Education, or Child Development
OR California Special Education Credential (must have at least 12 units ECE/child development and at least 3 units in administration/staff relations)
Health / Physical Clearance Report and a Negative TB test results
Pass FBI and DOJ Fingerprint background clearance
Proven success in developing integration projects for special needs children
Minimum 5-year teaching experience with people with disabilities.
Minimum of 1 year experience with program supervision
Excellent communicator and problem solver
Excellent writing skills
Computer knowledge and experience with Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Telosa Data-base system
