Program Director – Girls’ LEAP Self-Defense – Boston, MA

Position: Full-time, exempt

Based: Boston

Hours: Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm (flexible), frequent evenings and weekends

Reports to: Executive Director

The Program Director’s primary responsibilities include: managing all program staff, developing and maintaining successful program partnerships in the community, ensuring efficient and professional delivery of 25-35 programs per year, and teaching in programs as needed.

Job Responsibilities:

Program Coordination (30%)

Develop strong, positive working relationships with new and current Community Partners.

Work with the Executive Director, Board, and committees to design and implement short- and long-term goals for program delivery, staff development and training.
Contribute to program budget annual planning and forecasting
Work with Executive Director, and any other staff or consultants, on curriculum development for standard programs and other program curricula. (Teen Mentor, Teaching Woman, etc)
Oversee program delivery and program quality
Manage all program supplies and materials
Remain current on violence issues affecting low-income women and girls, best practices for strength-based approaches to girl programming, and local issues affecting the girls served.

Work with the Development and Finance Director to inform grant writing and reporting with program outcomes.

Program Staff/Volunteer Management (40%)

Recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate up to 5 part-time Teachers
Recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate up to 80 college undergraduate volunteers annually.
Act as staff liaison with 3 formal college chapters (Lesley University, Northeastern University, and Simmons College)
Supervise approximately 5-7 undergraduate interns each season
Outreach to other colleges/universities with opportunities to engage their students
Recruit, hire, supervise, and evaluate 24 teen employees annually
Oversee program delivery to teens in the form of on-going meetings, teen-led projects, and public speaking opportunities
Plan, coordinate and oversee delivery of initial training for new program staff.

Maintain communication with program staff.

Data/Evaluation (10%)

Oversee real-time entry of all program data (demographics, contact information, and pre-/post-survey data)
Maintain all paper records
Liaise with Data Manager and/or consultants regarding data analysis

Human Resources (10%)

Oversee submission of hours to bookkeeper for payroll
Manage employment forms
Manage all required background check processes

Office Management (10%)

Manage all office supplies, reorder when needed
Maintain office cleanliness (with support of staff, volunteers, and professional cleaners)
Maintain voicemail and general email accounts
Other tasks as needed

Experience and Qualifications:

BA in related field – MA Level preferred in social work, education, or related field.
Significant experience in physical, outdoor, or experiential education, martial arts, dance, theatre or some other expressive physical medium.
3-5 years program development experience with progressive responsibility and supervisory experience.
Valid MA Drivers’ license and regular access to reliable vehicle.
Physically able to teach self-defense; including but not limited to ability to lift 20-30lbs
Experience working with youth.
Experience as a supervisor to diverse groups.
Ability to work with diverse groups of people and manage conflict.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to work in a team environment.
Organizational skills, including demonstrated attention to detail.
Ability to take initiative and be a self-starter.
Ability to efficiently schedule time and activities.
Ability to maintain effectiveness with evolving tasks, responsibilities, or people.
Strong oral and written communication skills and strong public speaking skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications and Internet Software.
