Program Director – Literacy Bridge – Seattle, WA

Through partnerships with organizations like UNICEF, Literacy Bridge uses technology to help illiterate people in some of the world’s most remote villages learn how to grow more food and stay safe from deadly diseases. We do this today for 175,000 people, but we are looking for a program director to help us reach millions more while continuing to monitor and improve our program’s impact.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Program Director is responsible for program strategy, effective implementation and expansion, careful monitoring and evaluation, and management of a team of 10-15 people in the U.S. and Ghana.

Key Responsibilities

Innovation & Strategic Direction:

Ensure program strategy focuses on continued improvements and innovations derived from internal program insights, third-party research and best practices among similar organizations

Leadership:

Serve on the leadership team, participating in strategic planning and problem solving
Develop and implement strategies to align program direction with organization goals

Program Management:

Oversee execution of all program activities
Develop pilot projects to test new approaches to increase efficiency and impact

Staff Management & Development:

Work with cross-cultural staff in a growing organization
Develop performance measurements across program areas to ensure consistent, high-quality evaluation and goal setting for all employees
Recruit, hire, and oversee training and orientation of program staff members
Collaborate with leadership team to develop and improve organizational human resource policies and tools

Budget Management:

Oversee program budget and individual project budgets

Relationship Management:

Manage relationships with senior staff of key program partners
Oversee relationship management of partnerships carried out by program staff

Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) and Content Strategy:

Guide development of a cohesive content strategy and related M&E
Oversee M&E for organization, including managing mid-level M&E staff person and program management team in developing and operationalizing M&E strategy

Desired Skills & Experience

Eight years of relevant experience, with three years in a senior program management role:

Managing programs within the global development sector; experience in public health or agriculture education and/or behavior change communication programs is considered a plus.
Developing and evaluating program models; executing programs at a large scale
Administering programs (project planning, staffing, budgeting, reporting)
Managing complex projects with measurable successes and program growth
Working with cross-functional and cross-cultural teams
Carrying out multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Managing budgets, staff projections, and work plans at a high level
Hiring, recruiting, managing, developing, coaching, empowering, and retention of individuals and teams

Location and Travel

This position is based in Seattle, Washington. Candidate must be available for regular early morning Skype calls with Ghana, which can be done from home. Position will require travel up to four times per year for one to three weeks at a time to Ghana’s Upper West Region and other remote, rural areas.
