ExpandED Schools, formerly TASC, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the learning gap by increasing access to enriched education experiences. ExpandED Schools reimagines and re-invents the traditional school day, in New York City, Baltimore and New Orleans. The ExpandED Program Director is responsible for the implementation of the expanded learning time program (ELT) at Thurgood Marshall Academy Lower School [TMALS], which intends to provide comprehensive services to enhance and support the educational achievement, social and cultural development of all students. Working in partnership with school administrators and ExpandED Schools program staff, the ExpandED Program Director oversees the development, planning, and delivery of all ELT related services, and works to ensure programming is hands-on, youth-centered, and inquiry-based. S/he also fosters a collaborative relationship between on-site program staff and school personnel, as well as students and families. In addition to regular administrative meetings and trainings within ExpandED Schools, the ExpandED Program Director is based at the school site and will meet regularly with school leadership to discuss strategies for seamless alignment and management. The ExpandED Program Director will have the following responsibilities:

Responsibilities:

Program Management
Anticipate and plan for change, and respond effectively to the changing environment, including personnel, participant needs, and funder demands and priorities;
Develop and manage the ELT budget, including regular tracking and expense reconciliation;
Work with school staff to provide and receive updates on students and families, and to discuss overall operations including administrative tasks, and program strengths and opportunities for improvement;
Develop and implement plans to involve and engage parents.
Supervision
Identify, hire, and supervise ELT staff.
Motivate staff and foster a team approach to high-quality and innovative service.
Facilitate regular trainings and meetings; model appropriate youth development practices; and continuously challenge and support staff to raise standards;
Recruit and place volunteers including parents, caregivers, and corporate representatives.
Plan, coordinate and facilitate the Youth Development Staff Training in collaboration with ExpandED Schools colleagues;
Administration
Clearly articulate the school’s mission, goals and vision;
Advocate on behalf of ELT, its participants, and staff;
Ensure a safe, inclusive, welcoming, and respectful working environment;
Monitor ELT performance against desired outcomes and milestones. Conduct ongoing assessments and establish systems for measuring and reporting ELT outcomes and maintaining recordkeeping systems inclusive of attendance, enrollment files, progress reports, funder mandated web-based data collection system, etc.;
Meet regularly with supervisor to receive and provide updates on ELT, review administrative tasks, and to identify and communicate strengths and opportunities for improvement;
Facilitate planning sessions and team meetings with school administrators and teachers;
Participate in Cabinet, School Leadership Team, and Parent Association meetings, and other meetings as requested by the Principal or supervisor;
Establish protocols and systems for ongoing communication, including dissemination of relevant information and receipt of formal and informal feedback from all stakeholders. Ensure participant feedback is regularly collected and incorporated into the ELT design;
Identify challenges and gaps in implementing ELT and work with ExpandED Schools, the school, and funders to address and resolve identified issues;
Write and submit status reports as required (e.g. weekly reports, monthly dashboards, quarterly narrative reports, annual outcomes reports);
Attend all scheduled department meetings, planning sessions, and other events
Resource Development & Management
Serve as liaison with all funding sources.
Build and sustain collaborative partnerships with community organizations, colleges/universities, cultural institutions, businesses, and other entities in support of academic and enrichment activities;
Research and identify appropriate resources, materials and supplies to support activities;
Attend all meetings and trainings as required.

Qualifications:

BA/BS in education, social work, administration, human or social services, policy, or administration. Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered in lieu of preferred degree. Master’s Degree preferred.
Minimum three years of experience working with in-school youth. Supervisory experience a plus.
Proven track record in the development and delivery of programming for children and youth in the areas of education, the sciences, the arts, recreation or other related fields.
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy.
Comfort working with diverse stakeholders.
Ability to adapt to an ever-changing environment.
Demonstrated experience developing and monitoring budgets.
Demonstrated experience developing comprehensive program schedules.
Highly detail-oriented.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and consistently meet deadlines.
Knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office applications.
Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to effectively communicate the principles and practices of positive child and youth development a plus.
Knowledge of and experience with outcome measurement and evaluation a plus.

Due to the nature of its business, ExpandED Schools conducts background checks on all regular employees—full-time or part-time. Volunteers who are 18 years of age or older and any independent consultants will also undergo screening, if they will be performing assignments in schools.
